No Other & Expanded - Gene Clark:
... still have the original vinyl recording of this album from 1974 (just shows how old I am) and I think it has taken me almost all of that time to fully appreciate the beauty of this forgotten gem. Forget all about Clarks sojourn with The Byrds, this is nothing like any of the material they were producing even when Gram Parsons was doing his country thing with them. Little Bit Of Everything - Billy Currington ... Currington first came to my attention when he dueted with Shania Twain on the track Part for Two on Twains Greatest Hits album in 2004. His voice is pretty undistinguishable from a of lot the latest production line of male country singers. Therefore Currington has to rely on the material to be a significantly higher standard than his peers to make him stand out from the crowd. Unfortunately based on the material it looks like he is not going to be picked out of any identity parades soon. This is his third album and I have to say it is a big disappointment. Fearless - Taylor Swift ... just love the new phenomena that is Taylor Swift! A fantastic singer and songwriter she captures the imagination and the heart of 18 year olds (and twenty somethings) everywhere. I find her and her music very inspiring although I have to say all the songs on the fearless album are about boys which I guess will iscolate potential listeners. I love her singing technique here which put me in mind of this years x factor contender Diana from Blackburn Lancs. I also like her story style take on song writting. This album is one of those grab your hairbrush, ruffle your hair, dry your tears and sing sing sing along. I hope she does as well here as she has done in the st... Oh My God, Charlie Darwin - The Low Anthem ... up on the Glastonbury album list for me is "Oh My God, Charlie Darwin" by The Low Anthem, labelled as alternative country, it d be better off describing it as country music gone wrong. Musically it s not too bad, rather slow but ok providing you can stand the mouth organ. The vocalist occasionally seems like he s going for a Paul Simon type voice but too often ends up singing like Fireman Sam with his pants on fire, a perfect example of the latter is the title-track that starts the album off and is probably the worst introduction to an album you can imagine.
