Voice Letter - Ersatz Musika ... Musika are a Berlin based band made up of Russians some of whom had made a name for themselves in the Soviet underground scene in the 80 s. The band is the brainchild of the founder Irina Doubrovskaja. I like the music this band play, it s a great example of Russian folk blues but with a more relaxed exterior than the upbeat tunes of today s Russian blues. The lyrics are poetic and mostly in Russian and talk of simple things (love, drinking and picking mushrooms to name a few themes) in a soothing voice. Music In Mouth - Bell X1 ... first came to know (and later love) Bell X1 through their history with highly acclaimed singer-songwriter Damien Rice. The Irish rock band were originally known as Juniper and Rice, who played with them at the time, often took the lead vocals. The band broke up but reformed soon after as Bell X1 - now missing Rice, but gaining a lot in return. The band s sound is fresh and bright. Lead vocalist (and occasional live drummer) Paul Noonan has a wonderfully strong and steady Irish voice - melodic and lilting with a very different "feel" from that of Rice. Transfiguration Of Vincent - M. Ward ... Ward s music takes in influences from all over the place. Essentially it s hazy, folksy Americana, but it isn t that simple or pure. Transfigurations of Vincent picks up where previous album, End of Amnesia left off. There aren t any major stylistic changes, but this is a good thing, it allows Ward to develop and strengthen his style through referencing a lot of his influences. It kicks off with an instrumental, "Tranfiguration No. 1", and although I m not a fan of instrumentals, this one really holds its weight and sets the tone for the album - whimsical and ever changing.
