'A Caress of the Void', the fourth album by US funeral doom band Evoken, is a crushing and hugely atmospheric listen. The songs consist of heavy, crawling, downtuned guitar riffs, interspersed with ethereal-sounding clean guitar chords played both between and during the lumbering, doomy backbone of each track. The contrast between heavy sections and clean sections works well in creating a cavernous, otherworldly atmosphere, which fits in well with the Victorian-spiritualism theme evident in the album's cover art.
