A DATE WITH ELVIS is a compilation of Elvis' songs which was first released on vinyl in 1959 when Elvis was in the army. He had done no recording sessions since the previous year when he entered the army and would do no more until 1960 when he came out. However his record label had a lot of unreleased material in the can which meant that they could drip feed songs to his fans in order to keep him and his music in the public eye, in the hope that he would still be popular when he came out of the army.
