Jamiroquai are a very successful band but exactly how they became this successful is said in this album and the four that came before it. Yes a fifth album, somewhat of a milestone for many bands, so why did JK decide on another album, well this opinion will tell all. ~ History ~ Jamiroquai released their first album in 1993. Called ‘Emergency On Planet Earth’ it goes down a storm for me personally and shows many of the characteristics that the band shows to this day in their music. ‘The Return Of The Space Cowboy’ another hit album (although I don’t own this one) in a similar style to the first. The third album ... Read the complete review

Relief. I am relieved, let me say that. Personally I was gutted when I got my hands on "Synkronized". After all, "Canned Heat" was awesome, and the Synkronized tour was pretty much as good as they ever have been. But other than "Black Capricorn Day" there was no magic in the album. And "Supersonic?" Come on... Into the CD player goes "A Funk Odyssey" - will it be a classic or a clanger? As the ethereal noises of the intro to "Feels so Good" rise, it's make or break time. That swirling wind is so reminiscent of a "When You Gonna Learn?" remix. In comes the thumping beat, ... Read the complete review

Jay Kay and the gang are back, and this time they are funkier than before. Being given a taster of this CD when they released “Little L”, I thought it would be good, but still I thought nothing could surpass their last release “Synkronized”, which I thought was ignored by a lot of people, and given a lot of unjust criticism. I was wrong, and I am happy to say that “A Funk Odyssey” is one of the best CD’s I have heard so far this year. The CD gets off to an strong start with “Feels So Good”, which is just crying out to be released as a single. As usual there is a strong bass presence in amongst what can only ... I feel obliged to write about this album for several reasons. Firstly, I dont write about many albums. Basically I dont think they are a particularly interesting subject. "The Songs are good/Bad" is about the limit of of the info I can provide. That was until J K decided to enlighten the world with his latest addition to his discography. I have had it since Saturday. (Downloaded, oops!) and frankly is one of the best albums I have heard in ages. Let it be known im not a big Jamiroquai fan normally. I find their songs repetitive and bland on the previous albums. They all sound the same and all fave that 70's funk Flavour. I dont mind ... Read the complete review

When it comes to Jamiroquai, I am a bit divided. A fan of the earlier stuff, especially the likes of the first album, but Jay Kay and co seemed on a downward spiral to me, and successive releases seemed to demonstrate a dip in quality for me. That said, their first album did remarkably well, and the following two had huge success also, so that alone must prove to be proof that there are many Jamiroquai fans out there and this is one reason why 'a Funk odyssey' is such a big album. Would this be the album that put Jamiroquai back on the map and at the forefront of everyone's minds? Well, yes and no really. While the new CD is nothing like the ... Read the complete review
