      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Not bad but not great

Bubble Puppy are a Texan psychedelic band from the late 60s, their debut album A Gathering of Promises was released in 1969 and has an interesting style, much of this is created by having two guitarists, something quite common in Southern rock and hard rock of the era but very rare in psychedelic music.

The Texans might look like the Hair Bear Bunch but they're rather talented musicians and have gone on to play various styles of music since this.

The vocals are soft and sound more like The Beatles during their stoner years, it's not necessarily a sound you'd associate with Texas but the contrast of rather heavy guitars and mouse like vocals is rather interesting. The fuzziness of the guitars is a theme throughout as is the relentless drumming.

The song "Hot Smoke and Sasafrass" is their most succesful track to date and it's easy to see why, it's most likely because it's their catchiest tune, Bubble Puppy play rather long melodic songs which are more likely to appeal to the 70s prog rock fan than the 60s psychedelic garage fan.

It's for this reason, that I don't rate the album exceptionally highly - I like something a little more memorable.
