A GIRL LIKE ME is the title of former Spice Girl EMMA BUNTON's pop album. The album features 12 tracks which I will review. The opening song WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG is a fast paced number with a really catchy chorus. Bunton's vocals sound quite husky and it has some nice melodies. TAKE MY BREATH AWAY is a mellow tune with some beautiful vocals. The instrumental support is soothing. A WORLD WITHOUT YOU borders on have cheesy lyrics though the uplifting effect mean it leaves you smiling. If this album represents all that is Emma Bunton you can see why Jade from Damage is starting to play the field. I recall that famous moment on Jo Whiley when the lead singer of Gomez just stopped ripping into her over the "its not my cup of tea, but I can see why people like it" comment. It seems like the whole of the album has been made on the same ideology. While the dominating masculine figure of Mel C seems to have a degree of artistic license you get the impression that Emma herself had very little input in this product bar a few flesh pics for the camera. Who sez blonds are dumb.... Well, certainly anyone who's seen Emma Bunton, I would venture to suggest. The one time Spice Girl has brought out a solo album and judging by the video for the single she's well into playing the sex card good and hard (ooer missus) for all it's worth. I always found Bunton to be the least talented of all the SG's (yes even more so than Stick Spice) and always felt she was pretty much of a lightweight makeweight paperweight and now I'm damn sure of it. One of my preferred members of the Spice Girls, Emma was always the innocent one of the group with the soft voice and pleasant features. This is her debut album and has some fine pop gems on it.
