Advantages: Some great ballads
Disadvantages: Couple of weak tracks
They might hav been passed over for a Brit award this year but the album Rush of Blood to the Head helped put Coldplay on the map and confirm them as a force to be reckoned with in the music world.
The album has some crushingly great tracks on it with some powerful ballads driven by the piano playing and unique vocals of Chris Martin, some of the arrangements on this album are excellent and work so well it is one of those albums that has stood the test of time and still gets played in my car cd player on a regular basis.
There is a simplicity about many of the tracks even if as a listener you relise that there are some complicated rhythms underneath the sound, this is highlighted by the hauntingly beautiful The Scientist which is still my favourite Coldplay track of all time.
The album is not perfect, there are a couple of tracks which lapse into repetition and sort of merge into each other some what and it could do with a little greater range at times, for example Green Eyes leaves me cold however this is more than compensated for by the excellent Clocks and A Rush of Blood to the Head which is the title track on the album.
A good solid bit of indie rock on the mellow side of things but an enjoyable album with some strong songs on it.
Summary: Good album
