Advantages: Great songs, something to marvel at in every song.
Disadvantages: None.
A Rush Of Blood To The Head is a the sophomore album from British band Coldplay, its a remarkable album and unusually for an artist this second album eclipsed the first in its popularity, going platinum a total of 8 times. Its a brilliant album so lets dive right in.
In My Place
Beginning with thumping drums before melodic guitar riff and soft strings and organ. Chris whines and pleads (the best way of describing his vocal style) over the organ and industrial sounding drums for the verses before the twangly guitar and strings reunite with us for the explosive chorus. The songs sounds like its about past mistakes a guy has made and regretting them. Its a lovely song. Obviously much more edgy and urgent than the songs on the album and with the inclusion of harder guitar, organ and even strings, the bands sound is much more far-reaching.
Green Eyes
An acoustic ballad which Chris claims is about his cat. Well he must love that cat an awful lot given the songs content. About 2 minutes in Chris' hushed whispers turn to shouts of triumphant light at the end of the tunnel kind with drums, guitar and bass backing him up. Its a beautiful song, whoever its really about.
A Rush Of Blood To The Head
The slightly creepy song features Chris' psychotic bassy drawl singing of acting on impulse: a rush of blood to the head. It becomes less creepy when the twangle of electric guitar, drums and bass joins up but it feels very odd. This isn't a pop song. Its nice in its way though and shows their diversity.
Amsterdam
A beautiful piano ballad from Coldplay with Chris singing in his own unique way for us. Its difficult to say what this song is about, drugs? Theres definitely a suicide reference in there 'you cut me loose', its about someone being saved at the end, perhaps someone who has been saved from addiction, 'I swerved out of control'. Its nice though and the build up near the end is tremendous.
A brilliant album all in all and there a plenty of eclectic songs on here for everyone. They really pushed the boat out for their second album and at huge advantage to their sound. I'm not really a fan of their new material but this album really did it for me. Theres something I find to appreciate and like in every single song. Check it out.
Summary: A fantastic album, it feels urgent and sincere and brilliant.
