Advantages: Its really good, The price s 13.49 according to Amazon, In My Place and Clocks ar a work of pure genius.
Disadvantages: er..., Yeah well er..., No, no disadvantages for you I'm afraid
Hi. First of all, sorry about the awful title with the worst pun of the song title ever made. Oh well. Let me say that this album is pure gold. ( No, not real gold, because I don't think my CD Player would be able to take the weight...but anyway, I'm babbling ) This album has one of those outstanding things that makes special. You can listen to it over and over and still not get sick of it. You still get the same rush of emotions when you listen to Clocks, the same tingle down your spine when you hear The Scientist. The same mumbling " Yeah...." as soon as the chorus of In My Place bursts through the Speakers. It is genius. Pure genius. I was a little indecisive if it was as good as their first, but after listening hard to both, I would say that it just about tops it. It has more variety, more passion, more emotion. Chris Martin has that special talent of being able to sing a song, and take a piece of emotion out of his soul and put it into his singing. Most people accuse Coldplay and their fans of being miserable. F*ck them, they're the ones being miserable. Not all songs have to be happy...honestly, some people have no sensitivity. I'll take you through a guide of all the songs on the album. 1. Politik A word of warning. When you put the CD in the CD Player be sure to turn down the volume on your speakers. Don't assume that they're will be a nice soft easy to listen to song as the starter song. This isn't their first Album, Parachutes. No heartfelt soft Don't Panic to weave you into the album gently. Instead, (If your not prepared) you will be blown out of the roof and into out of space. (Heh heh, its quite funny to picture that happening. Anyway...) It starts with the loudest guitar riff I have ever heard, and then it decides to cool down, and as you're scraping your flattened arms from off the roof tiles, Chris Martin's soft gentle lyrics come in. But of c
ourse, your still on the roof. By the time you get back in to the room, after a disastorous attempt at getting there, ( I don't wanna get into it, but lets just say it involves rubber chickens ) You get to listen to a few more of Chris's lyrics, and then get blasted through the ceiling as the guitar beats back in. The pattern of Chris Martin's vocals and the heavy guitar riff taking turns to take control of our speakers goes on for a while. On first impressions I found it quite boring despite the exciting guitar beats and powerful chorus. But after a few listens to it really did start to grown on me and I found it fantastic. 2. In My Place Well, what can I say? This is a work of genius? I can't believe it didn't get to Number One. Guess what musical genius stopped them from achieving a well deserved Chart Position. Darius. Darius, for god's sake. I could give you all a long lecture on why Darius is a total git and therefore fill half this interview with various ways of insulting Darius. I'm sure you would find it amusing, but in the end this is a review for COLDPLAY. And I may get a large angry mob of Darius lovers sawing my door into shreds and setting fire to my family, so I'll just bite my lip. Now what was I saying? Oh yeah, this is probably my favourite song on the album. I just...love it! The tune, the lyrics, the bashing of drums, its just...magical in a way. And at the same time it is sad, and full of intense emotion spewing from Chris Martin's lips. And its so easy to identify. You know when you hear those slow beating drums that you are about to hear that haunting tune, followed by Chris Martin's vocals ( that may be drowned out by you absent-mindedly humming the tune without realising. It's one of those magical songs that is just unique and special. So well done, Coldplay. 3. God Put a Smile Upon My Face Please please don't hate me. But I don't find
this song as high standard as the others. Shall I run under the table screwed up in a quivering ball and wait for the angry mob to disagree or shall I explain why? Well, since I can't hear any uproars of screams I'll tell you why. Basically I just find it a little boring. I'm not saying it's a bad song. Because it's not! It just doesn't stand up to Coldplay's high standard. The lyrics are interesting, the tune is quite interesting but it doesn't do anything for me. It doesn't make me feel I can relate to it, I just dont seem to be able to get into it like I can for many of the others. They shouldn't have released this as a single, they should have released Warning Sign or Amsterdam, which I will praise shortly. 4. The Scientist Aaaah! Now that's better. The first time I heard this, I didn't think much of this. But this soon changed. I can't say how many times I listened to it before I started to fall in love with it. Maybe its when I saw the video for it? I don't know. What I do know is is that this is a cracker. Such a clever idea, very original title and lyrics. It's so easy to relax to, and yet at times you feel tense because of how sad it is. It's so simple. Just a simple piano beat at the start and throughout for a while with Chris Martin's voice gently singing along to the simple beat with the most interesting lyrics on the entire album. Its an extremely sad song. And sure, some people may say it is quite depressing and boring. But I didn't finds this the case at all, I found it interesting, and I felt like a nodding dog ( And no, its not because I look like a dog so don't try and be funny...) because I couldn't help but nod along to the gentle piano beat. 5. Clocks You know, I may as well just copy and paste the word fantastic a few thousand times to tell you about this song. I can't describe how good it is. It is great, it is rea
lly great, in fact i ts so great that it probably deserves a new word to describe how good it is. I quite like fantabulous myself, but anyway. I'll tell you a bit about it instead. It starts off with the most haunting unforgettable piano riff I have heard. For me, the whole record could just be this hypnotic piano beat and I would be happy to allow my mind to slip into a zone of self consiousness, but there was more to come. And of course, the vocals of Chris Martin. What Coldplay song would be complete without it. I am particularly fond of the lyrics of Clocks. " Am I part of a cure? Or am I part of a disease? " And several more interesting lines in this interesting mesmerising song. The first time I heard Clocks was when I was watching a BBC advert and they had chosen it for the background. I remember hearing that piano tune and thinking " Wow, thats the sort of thing Coldplay would do! " And indeed it was! Which symbolises a good song. You know which artist owns that song. You can just tell! 6. Daylight Ahhh. Now I do enjoy this song, but one thing troubles me. I can't help but think that sounds to similar to up and coming song on the album "Whisper" They sound to alike, the same sort of fast beat of the piano, the same sort of demanding, quick in control tune. I may be wrong, I'll leave that to you to judge. But play Daylight, and then play Whisper, and just see if you can see any similarities. I do like the song though. I was singing softy " Daaaaaaaaaylight..." along to Chris Martin's soft vocals which are embedded in the fast paced music. Not one of my favourites on the album, but I still find it an enjoyable track to listen to. 7. Green Eyes Oooor, Green Eyes, a lovely downbeat song with a mildly catchy chorus. I wasn't a big fan of this song to start off with. It takes a few listens to to really get into, but I did find it relaxing listen
to the first t ime round, befo re really listening to the lyrics. Which I usually to. But to be honest the song bored me so much the first time round that I was too bored to even bother hearing the words Chris Martin was trying to make me undertand, but to be frank Chris, I was too busy dying of boredom to pay attention. Sorry. But I do find it quite nice to hear now. I'm sorry I ever doubted you Chris. I do find that Chris himself feels a bit bored in this. Either that, or he is so in love, he is having trouble spewing out his emotions on to the record. I like to be optimistic. 8. Warning Sign YES!!! I LOVE THIS TRACK!!! Sometimes I just want to go find Chris Martin, smack him across the face and yell " WHY THE HELL DIDN'T RELEASE THIS AS A SINGLE INSTEAD OF GOD PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE, YOU GIT!!! " But I probalby wouldn't do that because Gwyneth Paltrow would be mad at me. And the last thing I need is having a film actress as a worst enemy... Anyway, first of all, I heard the beginning, and thought I had accidently replayed In My Place, but this feeling only lasted for a few seconds, as a new tune accompanied the slow drum beat. And I really love the tune. Its sort of indicates the final of something, this could be played at the end of a film, as the conclusion is made. And then the vocals kick in with Chris Martin slowly purring (OK, wrong word, hes not a cat...) Warning Sign...and then he carrys on in his relaxing emotional fashion. Again, great lyrics, and a mesmering tune weaved into the parts where Chris Martin decides to shut up (I'm not saying thats a bad thing, it makes up for it by using that deep bass like sound pouring through. And if the verses weren't cool enough, theres still the chorus to go. At first I thought the words and the tune were a bit ill fitted, but after I heard the chorus repeated I realised that it sounded good. Really good in fact. With that haunting tune in the background
as Chris pours out h is soul " Well the truth is, I miss you ". One line put to such fantastic use. He makes it seem as if it's the hardest thing in the world to say, and it really is amazing how one person can mean something like that so bad. Unless its real? Well, be it real, or be it unreal, its still believable. The song finishes well too. With Chris murmering " I crawl back into your open arms..." over and over. And you may not be aware of this, but 99% of the time, you will be murmering along with him. Unless you have somehow got yourself into a situation where you have managed to get ducktape over your mouth, but this is probably most unlikely. 9. Whisper OK, here is Daylight..oh sorry, I mean Whisper. I would say that Whisper is different to Daylight in parts but it certainly does share certain similarities. Such as the fact that Chris Martin tends to repeat the title on numerous occasions over and over. As I would find this one of the more upbeat tracks, I hate the fact that it lacks emotion. I'm not saying it's a bad song, I'm just saying that the lack of emotion in Chris Martin's vocals are a little upsetting. The chorus does seem to contain certain power, but to be honest, it isn't a favourite of mind. But I wouldn't turn the track over. No way. It's still nice to bob around to. 10. A Rush of Blood to the Head Ahhh...the title track. Always tend to be good tracks. And Coldplay's is no exception. It is probably one of the most depressing tracks on the album. With Chris droaning things like " I'm gonna buy a gun and start a war..." and it carrys on in this sort of droaning sort of way. But despite that, I still loved it. The chorus which belts out after a a bit of moaning about guns and stuff is full of passion and power. And then it goes back into the soft vocals again about guns and wars and such. I wouldn't say I've listened to it
enough times to give you a general idea on what th e songs actually about, its been a while since I've listened to the album. I dunno where it is! But most of the songs are fresh in my mind, they don't seem to go away. But anyway, before i shoot straight off topic, I strongly reccomend you listen to the track. Because it is enjoyable to listen to, and it has a good mixture of powerful emotionally charged lyrics with downbeat parts and upbeat parts. 11. Amsterdam Woohoo! Another fantastic song. A great album. One of my favourites. The solo piano track is enough, to lock you in the mesmerising hypnosis of the song. And then Chris starts to gently sing to you. " Come here, oh my star is faa-aading, and I swerve outa controoo-lll" and so on. The song admits that Chris Martin is feeling weakness, and I'm not too sure why he's feeling so painful, but I get the feeling that it is something to do with a break up in a relationship. Its easily a fantastic finish to a fantastic album. Hope you found my review helpful, honest, and funny ( I'll admit, I'm no comedian, but I hope I raised a grin! )
