Advantages: Good music

Disadvantages: A few weak tracks

I thought it was about time I wrote on a brilliant album that I own by the one and only AALIYAH. This album is definitely something to remember Aaliyah by ~Tragically Aaliyah was taken from us late last year in a jet crash taking her many acting and singing talents with her. However we are left with this album by herself as well as her other Cd's and of course the movies she starred in.

This CD is pretty good, it features many well known songs from Aaliyah such as 'Try again' 'More Than A Woman' her new track, 'Rock The Boat' and also 'We Need A Resolution'

The album itself is a red colour with beautiful pictures of the star over it.
Here are the songs on the album self titled, 'Aaliyah':

Track1: We Need A Resolution

This track is introduces us to the album and features Aaliyahs long term pal Timbaland. This track is real dancy and the beats are great. This RnB/Soul track is definitely a brilliant introduction to a superb album. The song is about a couple who keep arguing and they need a resolution. Timbalands little rap in the middle of the song is a great impact on the track itself and I love it! This song is 4:02 minutes long.

Track2: Loose Rap

The beginning of this track sounds a little dainty but moves onto quite an up-beat track which shows off Aaliyahs voice well. Static from Playa is featured on this track. I don't think this track is as good as the 1sr but still a brilliant song, catchy and enjoyable. This song is mostly Aaliyah although 'Static' does feature a little in it. his track is 3:50 mins long.

Track3: Rock The Boat

This track has just been released, it's great to see the death of Aaliyah hasn't stopped her fantastic talent from being heard and recognised. I love the video to this song and the track itself is superb. It is more of a beaty song from Aaliyah and very catchy too. This is a very enjoyable song thou
gh and pleasant to listen to, it is very well known at the present moment. 4:34.

Track4: More Than A Woman

The video to this track is great too and its best feature is the R.I.P contribution to the star at the end, although the video is great it can also be upsetting if you love Aaliyah. The track itself was released just before the time of Aaliyahs tragic death but stayed with us a long time and is still currently played a lot on the radio. It is a catchy, upbeat and interesting song, the lyrics are superb and I personally think this dancy track is great. 3:49.

Track5: Never No More

Back to the slower songs now, this track is less beaty but still an interesting track where it seems the lyrics play a big role. I like the title of this track so I often find myself singing along to the chorus. This is rather a feel good track where you find yourself listening to the lyrics quite carefully. I like the ebats to this song, slow but very catchy, 3:58.

Track6: I Care 4 U

This is quite a slow track with loving lyrics, a typical love song about caring for someone. The verses are sang quietly and the chorus is sang a little louder which I like. I like this track, it is catchy and will stay in your head for quite a while! Aaliyahs voice is brilliant but isn't used as strongly as some other tracks. 4:33.

Track7: Extra Smooth

This track is a little faster than the previous and a well cool tune with brilliant rythemic beats! It reminds me of another song but can't think what it is! I really like the beaty chorus but the verses are not anything special, after a while this song can become too much and a little boring, but I do like to listen to it occasionally. 3:54

Track8: Read Between The Lines

I don't really listen to this track very much, but it is a beaty tune with interesting lyrics. The song comes across to me as a 'Latino like' tune, simalar to J.Lo's Latino sty
le. The lyrics don't make much sense, you have to listen to them carefully, the chorus is what makes this song good to listen to but otherwise it doesen't have much of an impact on the album. 4:20

Track9: U Got Nerve

I think this track is really groovy and cool to listen to, it has a different style to Aaliyahs other music on the album and makes a good change of her voice which sounds smooth and brilliant on this track, I think a really good remix of this song could be done with Missy Elliot, its superb! 3:42

Track10: I refuse

This is a slower song and a lot sadder than other tracks. Backround noises are used throughout the track well and a piano is used well too. This track is quite simalar to 'Alicia Keyes' music and I like it. This is different and stylish. A little way into the song it becomea more beaty and heavier so it isn't slow and sad all the way throughout the track, I like this because this track is rather long and it would get a little tiresome listening to if the beat wasn't there. 5:57

Track11: It's Whatever

This is a little more beatier but nothing dancy compared to the last track, I'm not too keen on this track, I don't think it's anything special from Aaliyah and she doesen't show off her great voice like in other tracks, 4:08.

Track12: I Can Be

This song has a real 'guitary' beat which I'm not too keen on, Aaliyahs voice is used well on this track but the heavy guitar is louder than her voice which is a shame, here for you can't really understand the lyrics at all, I don't listen to this track v.much and it is quite short. 2:59

Track13: Those Were The Days

This track is 'remembering the memories' song and I like it, Aaliyah sings well and the tune is good, kind of annoying how it repeats itself all the time but I do like listening to this fine tune. 3:24

Track14: What If

>The beginning to this track is VERY INTERESTING, a combination of funny noises of what appear to sound like frogs to me! The song moves onto a dancy, upbeat track but maybe a little too heavy for me, its a rocky tune which I'm not too keen on. 4:20

Track15: Try Again

This song was probably Aaliyahs biggest hit, it made her more noticable and the song was v.successful reaching number 5 in the UK charts. The film, 'Romeo Must Die' in which Aaliyah starred in used this as the soundtrack. The song is very dancy and upbeat, its brilliant and I love it, it ends Aaliyahs album v.well. This track is also one of the biggest RnB hits around. If it wasn't for this track, I would never listen till the end of the Cd! 4:45

My favourite tracks on this album are 'More Than A Woman' 'Rock The Boat' and 'Try Again' which Aaliyah has released as singles. They are most probably the danciest tracks on the CD consisting of good beats and rythem.

Songs that others may not know, that are really good are:

Extra Smooth
I Care 4 U
Never No More

This album is brilliant to listen to, relaxing yet upbeat and v.up-to-date RnB and soul music, the album has a brilliant combination of the dancier tracks and the less dance and more soul tracks. Some tracks are better than others but overall this CD is definitely something to remember Aaliyah by. You may want to check this CD out if you haven't heard it, you can find it in most music shops for around £10 at the moment. Cheers for reading all, best wishes to all, as always, emmaxXx :0)
