REM are back with a new studio album and anyone who thought that the release of a Greatest Hits album signalled an end to the creative genius that has made the band so popular and given then such great longevity have been proven wrong by the release of this excellent album.

This is REM back on form, this is REM back with something to say about the goings on in the world today, admittedly eight years of Republican rule is likely to give any leftward thinking eco friendly band something to sink their teeth into and the environment and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan provide fertile ground for Stipe lyrics.

On some of the louder more angry albums Stipe vocals have been drowned out by heavy guitar feedback and drum beats however on this album the strength of his voice really comes through and while there is probably not a classic like Losing My Religion on this album there are some great songs that would have made a Greatest Hits album if it had been made this Christmas.

In all there are 11 tracks

1) Living Wells The Best Revenge
2) Man Sized Wreath
3) Supernatural Superserious
4) Hollow Man
5) Houston
6) Accelerate
7) Until The Day Is Done
8) Mr Richards
9) Sing For The Submarine
10) Horse To Water
11) Im Gonna DJ

The opening track is a strong one and a song that I could easily imagine being used to open their live dates, it is fast with some strong vocals, in fact the first three songs are excellent culminating in Supernatural Superserious which brings back memories of old REM songs.

The album also has a strong ending with the high tempo I'm Gonna DJ bringing back memories of the first ever REM album I listened to. This a great album and well worth the £7.99 I paid for it.

Summary: Great album from a class band.
