... Suzi Quatro playing along with Ace its got that sort of feel to it. Song 3: Snow Blind is a song where Ace could be talking about his drug problems at the time of his solo project and as the verse of the chorus goes "I think i'm lost out in space". Song 4: Ozone is another good song wheres parts of it almost sound Egyptian & on the solo you can hear Ace playing up & down the guitar scales. Song 5:Whats On Your Mind? This song is another classic rock track. Song 6:New York Groove the only cover on th...more

Premium Review Ace Frehley - Kiss: Ace Rocks (346 words)
by - written on 29/05/01 (Very useful, 65 readings)
Rating:

Having bought all 4 of the Kiss solo albums Ace Frehley's one stood out from the rest. It was produced by Ace & Eddie Krammer in 1978 (Eddie Krammer has worked with the legend Jimi Hendrix!) The first song Rip It Out is brilliant & show's off how good Ace really is,with a cool riff & good solo. Song 2:Speeding back to my baby is a classic rock song (me & my mate used to sing this one all the time with our air guitars)Ace co wrote this song with his wife Jeanette Frehley. In parts of this song you could imagine Suzi Quatro playing along with Ace its got that sort of feel to it. Song 3: Snow Blind is a song where Ace could be talking about ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The one of four (129 words)
by - written on 09/09/00 (Useful, 8 readings)
Rating:

In 1978 during the time of bold moves, KISS release four solo Albums dedicated to each other. Out of the four this is the one that tops them all. Ace just lets himself go and totally rocks it. This Albums has all the elements of entertainment, Music, Fun, Excitement, and Comedy, but it is the music that stands on the shoulders of the other three albums. Tracks fast and slow, moody and exciting. All the songs have a counterpart to each other from the rocking New York Groove a hit single, the rip woaring sound of Rip It Out, The Weird Laugh of Ace Frehley on Wiped Out and the magical textured instrumetal Fracture Mirror. A must buy for any KISS ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Ace Frehley - Kiss: Ace rocks! (110 words)
by - written on 16/08/00 (Useful, 18 readings)
Rating:

As one of the set of four solo ablums released by Kiss in 1978, Ace's effort was a very rock-metal affair. Unlike Paul's quasi-kiss, Gene's progressive and Peter's RnB efforts, Ace takes us right back to his hard rock roots with this collection. 'Rip it Out' starts the album as it means to go on, with fantastic drumming and the sheer brilliance of Ace's guitar work. Other memorable songs include 'Wiped Out' and the instrumental 'Fractured Mirror'. The latter track was to be Ace's best and was frequently copied but never bettered on later solo albums. Definitely the best solo effort. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review What an 'ACE' guy!! (89 words)
by - written on 23/09/00 (Somewhat useful, 15 readings)
Rating:

Hey, this guy is possibly the best guitarist of all time. If not the best, he is certainly one of the best. He demonstrates amazing solos live on stage and if you took time out to listen to him, you would understand where i am coming from. He has amazing self belief in himself and the other members of the band and definitely knows how to entertain the crowd. This guy is definitely thumbs up!! It is such a shame KISS are playnig theie final concert later next month. ...  Read the complete review

The Red In The Sky Is Ours - At The Gates
Classic experimental death metal album, and At the Gates' best. Some progressive touches aren't as well incorporated as they would like to be.

The Metal Opera - Tobias Sammet's Avantasia
Classic power metal inspired by an epic theme. Nothing too out of the ordinary or particularly grandiose in this first part.

The Album - Ultrabeat
pretty green eyes none really

Slaughter And Apparatus - Aborted
Aborted continue to improve, refining and incorporating further melodic elements into their sound. Owes a significant debt to Carcass' 'Heartwork,' preventing it from being groundbreaking.

Sci-fi Lullabies - Suede
The first disc is amazing A bit more hit and miss on disc 2

Raising Fear - Armored Saint
Perfection of the band's style, with great guitars and vocals and some timeless classics. Songs tend towards over-repetition, and end of the album is less noticeable.

Piece Of Time - Atheist
Innovative, jazzy 80s death metal. Rather short.

Of The Son And The Father - Astral Doors
Keeping classic metal alive, with a variety of song styles. Can't escape seeming like a second-rate copy.

Deceptive Awareness - Ablaze In Hatred
Some great modern doom on the even-numbered songs. Some incredibly average modern doom in-between.

Abomination - Abomination
Fine early death metal. Repetitive and derivative.
