Ok, so my 3rd album is Achtung Baby (I've skipped over Ace of Spades as I only own that song from the album, and that's only due to downloading the Guitar Hero 1 soundtrack, maybe I could review that...). This is a great album from one of the greatest bands of all time. I didn't really get into U2 properly until 'All that you can't leave behind', though I obviously knew a number of their songs. So I had a quick look on the web to find out a bit more info about this album. Apparantly this was a change of direction for U2, which considering this was their 7th album, is not surprising. I've just realised I also own their first five albums and also the 2 ... Read the complete review

I still remember the first time I heard "The Fly". At first I thought, "What band is this again?" like most of my friends. But immediately I was bowled over by the sheer class of it - here was a band used to waving flags, climbing things, making songs about God and preaching etc, and suddenly they had changed everything. They had become darker, heavier and the music sexier! And all in less than two years since Bono announced onstage at The Point in Dublin that U2 had to go and "dream it all up again"! The band had relocated to Hansa Studios in Berlin (where David Bowie had recorded "Low") to come up with some new ... Read the complete review

Unlike last year, so far I haven't been buying a large number of records and I wish I was. It's boiled down to laziness and not being able to find anything too appealing, and that's new too. So, when I found myself in WHSmith with some sale shelves before me, I came across 2 selections I considered would satisfy me until some point in the future. And the selection I'm talking about here; 'Achtung Baby' by U2, is an album strongly recommended by girlfriend. An ideal album for a virgin to the band then. And if I didn't like it I could always get a new girlfriend with better taste in music, hehe! =) Packaged in trademark Anton ... Read the complete review

After U2 announced at the end of the Lovetown Tour in 1989 that they were going to have to go away and dream it all up again a lot of people believed this was the end of the worlds biggest band. What actually happened was the band took a few years to re-invent themselves and return with a fresh new sound. There are not many bands around that could do this and there are even less that would be willing to take the gamble, especially given U2's position. This makes it all the more admirable in my eyes. U2's heaviest album, which has the most throwaway title. This was apparently intentional, as it would mislead people who read too much into ... Read the complete review

From naïve, mullet bearing young men in drainpipes to worldly wise, all knowing rock superstars in a dashing decade. That was the story of the four broth boyos from across the Irish Sea, as they progressed with assured giant steps from 11 O?Clock Tick Tock to the seedy, claustrophobic masterpiece that was the uncompromising The Fly, possibly the pick of the bunch from 1991?s Achtung Baby album and a huge No 1 single. They were fresh faced, wide eyed young things with acne and attitude when they started, but by the time that the dark vistas of that single swamped everything else on Top of the Pops that week, that month, that year, this band had ...
