Walking Wounded - Everything But the Girl
by bigbtommy - written on 25/03/03 (Very useful, 84 readings)
Rating:
With Walking Wounded, Tracey and Ben have moved to more of an electronic feeling in their music. It took Radiohead till their fourth album to go all wibbely-wobbely and bleep-bleepish. Everything But the Girl managed to troop through over a decade - well, fourteen years, actually, before selling themselves out to the demon god of drum-and-bass beats. Fourteen years without even a single mention in the dubious DJ magazines. But when they did jump on the bleeping bandwagon, they did it with a bang, albiet a rather mellow, slightly depressed bang. Tracy Thorn puts in a sterling vocal performance throuhgout, and you camn drawn into the emotion of the songs. Mirrorball is my favourite song as it has a great bass line and a really good ...

Baby The Stars Shine Bright - Everything But the Girl
by micksheff - written on 13/11/07 (Very useful, 99 readings)
Rating:
Baby The Stars Shine Bright was the third album to be released by Everything But the Girl and if their debut album Eden and its follow up Love Not Money seem to be poles apart then Baby The Stars Shine Bright sees the duo taking on a completely different theme yet again. The title may seem a little odd but it takes its name from a Shirley Temple film. The album was released in 1986 and sees Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt trying their hand at country style songs with a full orchestra to accompany them. If the first two albums demonstrated just how versatile Everything But The Girl are then this album delivered yet even more surprises. Tracey s voice is now stronger than ...
