... drunk just by listening. Not to say it's been replaced by rainbows, and lolly pops but you are looking at a significantly more optimistic album. I for one was not one of the aformentioned fans, I enjoyed this album as I enjoyed it's predeccesor. Fans should really stop expecting the band to rehash Goddammit year after year and accept that the band are in different places in their life (All grown up and happily married) Through the album you'll barely hear a flicker of the Trio of yesteryear, as this album favours b...more

Premium Review Agony & Irony - Alkaline Trio: Big, Poppy, not punk... I love it! (351 words)

For those of you wanting a punk album, this is not for you. Alkaline Trio have grown up, grown more ecclectic, and yep, significantly more produced. Many of fans were dissapointed by the band's 2005 release "Crimson" accusations of selling out were flying everywhere (as with any punk band that dip their foot into a more commercial territory) Those are the fans who will be gravely dissapointed here, as the Trio have only gone further down that path. Gone are the songs so soaked with Matt Skiba's alcoholism that you'd get drunk just by listening. Not to say it's been replaced by rainbows, and lolly pops but you are looking at a significantly ...  Read the complete review

WOOOO there back. Yes Alkaline Trio are back with there 6th Studio Album, Agony and Irony. This album has been talked about quite a lot and from the most reviews and blogs Ive seen very little good has come from them. Well guess what? NOT HERE! I think this album is absolutely brilliant and yet adds another tick to the awesome list of their albums. Alkaline Trio are one of the most well known bands for rock/punk music with a tint of depressing stories and events. Saying that though don't jump to the conclusion of "OH great! Slow gothic songs of depression" because even though most songs do have "dark" or "gothic" lyrics the songs themselves ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Agony & Irony - Alkaline Trio: Into the night! (791 words)
by - written on 09/08/08 (Very useful, 31 readings)
Rating:

On your first listen of this album, like me you may find this album disappointing. It first appears bland, uninspired and pales in quality compared with the last impressive album crimson. However, i believe that alkaline trio have not made a bad album to date, and this is no exception. With more listens, you begin to appreciate the quality of this album. I will now proceed to explain what makes agony and irony a good, but not great album. Alkaline trio are not a band for everyone. They have very dark and somewhat sinister lyrics which can be too much for some. But alkaline trio do create a strong atmosphere in each of their songs, with powerful dramatic ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Agony to listen to (232 words)
by - written on 05/01/09 (Very useful, 18 readings)
Rating:

From their wonderfully bleak earlier works, Alkaline Trio are now sadly reduced to firing out sadly half baked material like this new album. The only irony is the fact that I'll spend longer on this review than they did penning this timid selection of 'more of the same'. In fact, the gearshift to boring has been surprisingly quick (even 'Crimson', their last album and a very commercial offering seems like Mozart compared to 'Agony and Irony'). There are some bright sparks hiding on this record, so it's probably still worth a listen for those who are very completist when it comes to record collecting. 'Over and Out' is a fairly poignant track and 'I Found a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Agony & Irony - Alkaline Trio: Alkaline trio Agony And Irony 2008 (259 words)

I Found this album generally disappoiinting. Alkaline Trio Are Now 6 Albums Into Their career And It seems as if again they have changed their sound but this time ists Bad. Agony & Irony features songs more pop/rock than pop-punk which could be seen as progression from Crimson. But its really disappointing that Trios edge that made trio my favourite band didn't show in this album. Alk3 clever lyric writing still shines through in this album The album as i mentioned is very pop-py which for trio is a complete U-turn on everything which generated the huge fan base they sported after the release of crimson. This album may make Trio more ...  Read the complete review

Some great, bouncy cheesypopmetal It was produced by EMI, without the band's input

Every track is amazing in its own way Some great tracks missing that deserve a place

Songs all cohesively flow, some monsters of tunes. Too Short? maybe.

Great hard rocking girl band Jennifer Finch went on to play bass for Pink

A great mix of fast paced catchy songs and slower ballads None

A terrific album of bouncy pop punk fun. If you dislike nasal vocal performances then you probably won't like this.
