Advantages: Unique singing style, the music is great fun

Disadvantages: Unique singing style

PISTOL OF FIIIIRE!! PISTOL OF FIIIIRE!! Man I love that song! No-one else's vocals sound quite as forced or constipated as Caleb Followill's do, but no folks, I wont let this stymie my appreciation for The Kings of Leon.

I think it is far from luck that Caleb's vocals somehow manage to fit the band's musical style perfectly. If you would put any voice to these songs it would be Caleb's. I think he knew for a fact that his vocals sucked more than the latest dyson so he adjusted his brethrens alternative southern blues to match his vocals.

This doesn't mean that everything is perfect though. Milk is painful to sit through, his voice makes me cringe and if it doesn't you, then your ears have fallen off.

The Bucket and King of the Rodeo are both fine singles. Great musicianship is present and they are brilliantly listenable (if a little too well produced). Soft and Four kicks I hate in equal measure. They do absolutely nothing for me and I'm not willing to sit through them again. Actually scrap that, I just had another listen. Soft is brilliant but I still hate the throwaway rock sensibility of Four Kicks.

Day Old Blues and Rememo are highlights of the LP. Gentle acoustics, decent vocals turned in by Caleb and mournful tones ring true. The change in tempo and pace really is noticeable after so many in your face moments.

Basically, I've had enough of talking about this album. I want to say this album is everything I hate about the music industry but I know that isn't true, and furthermore, I actually actively enjoy listening to Kings of Leon.

Go buy it!

7/10
