'Alaska' is the first truly enjoyable album from this American progressive metalcore band, oddly solving the problem of chaotic inconsistency by bringing even more diverse styles into the mix. The new post-rock element, mainly confined to the instrumental 'Medicine Wheel' and 'Laser Speed,' would take over significantly in the future, and as a genre that routinely balances light and darkness, power and melody, its application works as a catalyst in bridging the gap between the heavier metal elements and more melodic singing.
