“ Artist: Alexander Fedoriouk / Genre: World Music / Label: Folk Sounds Records / Release Date: 2000 „
Good cimbalom playing is something quite special, fortunately not too many bad cimbalom players become well known and in Alexander Fedoriouk's work, we have one of the best players of the instrument alive today. Born in Ukraine, he started playing at the age of 7, these days he plies his trade in the US working with various jazz musicians and state orchestras.
Harmonia is his constant solo-project with the Harmonia Folk Band of Cleveland. This album "Cimbalom Traditions" was released in 2000. This ensemble bangs out the beats, blending ethnic music from Balkan nations, Slovakia and Ukraine. The cimbalom is prominent throughout and clearly leads the ensemble, Fedoriouk is insanely fast at times, playing the cymbalom at a seemingly impossible speed, the listener gets the feeling that he could continue at such a speed indefinitely but breaks it down with some slower playing to ensure the arrangements are varied, excited and unique.
There's enough sadness in the music to keep the touchy feely listeners something to cheer about and plenty of jolly, joyful tunes to bring out at a traditional wedding party!
