Advantages: Some brilliant thrash songs on this album.

Disadvantages: Some not so good songs included too.

Slipknot have taken a more mainstream route with this - their fourth album. Although a letdown for fans of their first albums, this is still a really good listen. The lyrics are usual Slipknot style - about loss, death and pain. The sound is also very well orchestrated, despite the difficulty of getting nine band members to be able to create coherant sounds all at the same time. Their musical skill is really displayed in this album, rather then their ability to scream, which is also well presented in "All Hope Is Gone" and when Corey screams "THE LIMITS OF THE DEAD" multiple times in "Dead Memories".

This has carried over from their previous albums with dramatic style. They really are songs you can thrash and sing along to, as are most of their tracks.

Slipknot have mixed hard rock with their distinctive nu metal sound, with slower songs such as "Snuff" to break up the heavy rhythm.

Personally, the tracks "Psychosocial", "Dead Memories", "All Hope Is Gone" and "Gematria" do it for me, the rest are just filler tracks that don't really have as much melodic style in my opinion.

This is a brilliant purchase for any Slipknot fan, you will enjoy it even if you are more of a fan of the original material. The songs I mentioned above are all regularly played on their current live set, so getting this album is recomended for anyone who would be seeing them live anytime soon. If you are just getting into nu metal, this album would be a good place to start. Not too heavy, but not too light either.

Summary: If you are just getting into nu metal, this album would be a good place to start. A good listen.
