All The Road Running - Mark Knopfler
by Ali_Smith - written on 08/08/06 (Very useful, 504 readings)
Rating:
Straits and Knopflers solo work, I was filled with anxiety when I discovered that he had decided to enter the dreaded duet territory, albeit with an artist so gifted as Emmylou Harris . Although this might immediately sound the off-shoot of an inspired studio session it had actually been in the pipeline for 7 years or so. I needn’t have worried though, since the result is a fine piece of a Americana music. Rating:
that you can continue releasing good albums, and progress musically. Hell, even country artists, not normally known for being adventurous, can do it. In the 60s, Emmylou featured on Gram Parsons' excellent "G.P." and "Grievous angel" albums, and her own albums such as Quarter Moon in a ten cent town" (1978) and "Wrecking Ball" (1995), were landmarks, in their own way, and all are worthy additions to any record collection. When it comes down to it, though, she may not be very well known, with no big hit singles. One of her most famous songs is "Boulder to Birmingham", but I guess a lot of people won't know it. ...

World Citizen - Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Sylvian
By turns rhythmical and cutting edge; with a political mindedness it's not ashamed of
The lyrics may be a little too political for some
The Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager - Get Cape Wear Cape Fly
A decent debut album that mixes Folk and rock superbly
He still hasn't got the radio play he deserves
The Blue Notebooks - Max Richter
Elegant, modern, traditional yet unique
Not enough people will ever listen to it
The Art Of The Koto Vol. 1 - Nanae Yoshimura
Hauntingly beautiful and curiously accessible traditional music from Japan
It might make you want to buy the next two volumes!

The perfect continuation of a popular score with a lot more drama thrown in
If you never bought into any aspect of the Star Wars saga, then you probably won't like it
Making Love And Music: The 1976-79 Recordings - Dr. Hook
One of the best songs ever - A Little Bit More
A disappointing end to the album.
La Bella Vista - Harold Budd
Beautifully textured, warm solo piano from a unique and incomparable artist
It lasts but 40 minutes . . . I could easily listen to another 40 more !

Congonese dance music - traditional yet modern - avant-garde yet accessible
Some may find it a little repetitive

A decent uptempo band, good lyrics and pretty catchy music
