The 1990's was a big decade in music and saw the success of a number of R&B vocal harmony groups. Kci & JoJo Hailey are a duo who were half of the group Jodeci who had success in the early 90's. Following their group success they released their debut album Love Always in 1997 a year after Jodeci had split up. They have just released their fifth studio album of their career as Kci & JoJo. In late 2006 K-Ci released his debut solo album entitled "My Book". Jojo is yet to release a solo album of his own.
**All My Life**
This is a collection of their greatest hits, this greatest hits album contains all their most well known singles aswell as some of their favourite selected tracks from their first four albums. The album was released in 2005 and as I mentioned above. they have since released a new studio album which is entitled Love. This greatest hits album was released on the Geffen Records Label.
1. Last Night's Letter
This was taken from their debut album and is a smooth ballad about writing your feelings down about how you feel about someone. The music is very gentle and the backing vocals add a great feel. One of my favourite tracks of theirs.
2. You Bring Me Up
Another from the first album but this is a more of a hip hop track and doesnt quite work as well as Last night's letter. Although it has a nice enough beat and is quite catchy it is largely forgettable compared to the rest of the tracks on here.
3. How Could You
Another one from the debut album and this is a lovely ballad which has a taut drum beat and some nice strings in the background. this track is about asking your partner how could you do it?. A great ballad.
4. All My Life
This is a beautiful ballad that is about Jojo's daughter and was their second number one single. The opening violin sequence is taken from Frank Sinatra's P.S I Love you. This is one of my favourite songs from KCI & JoJo.
5. Don't Rush (Take Love Slowly)
Another one taken from their debut album Love Always. This is a midtempo crossover between R&B and Hip Hop. Their vocals sound smooth and integrate well together as you would expect from brothers. A very catchy track .
6. If You Think You're Lonely Now
This is a cover of the classic track from Bobby Womack which is one of my all time soul classics. Although I am slightly dissapointed by this version as it doesnt quite have the spark of the original. This song was recorded for the film Jason's lyric.
7.I Care About You - Babyface, K-Ci & JoJo
This is a beautiful ballad which features the legendary Babyface. Along with their How do you want it with Tupac Shakur, This is One of the best collaborations KCI & JoJo have recorded in their career. Fantastically sung by all three singers on show here.
8. Never Say Never Again
One of their least well known tracks they have recorded but this is a nice track that is up there with some of the best tracks on this greatest hits collection as there are other tracks aswell that have not been hits.
9. Through Heaven's Eyes
This is a very soothing ballad which has a gentle piano and is one of the best ballads that they havent released as a single. A very good effort indeed.
Taken from It's Real released in 1999 this track opens with an old shool acapella intro and then develops into a midtempo hip hop track with has some smooth guitar and backing vocals aswell ad the beat. A decent song.
11. Tell Me It's Real
This is taken from the 1999 album It's real and is another good use of a vocoder. What I like about the song is that it has the soft singing and then the vocoder kicks in with a very different sounding vocal performance.
This is a gentle guitar led ballad which is featured on It's Real from 1999. It is a nice enough track without quite having that spark to make it stand out from the rest of the tracks like this.
One of my favourite KCI & JoJo tracks this was released in 2000 on the album entitled X. This is one of their best uses of vocoder you are likely to hear. "I'll go crazy, go crazy" is featured through the vocoder and adds to the overall feel of the song.
14. Wanna Do You Right
This is taken from the 2000 album entitled X and features Curtis Mayfield like Guitar licks and is one of the best tracks of the kind that they have done. Very well recorded and a splendid song with great vocal performances from both.
15. I Can't Find the Words
This is about telling someone you are sorry but you can't find the words to tell them how you feel. It isnt the best ballad on the collection but it sure isnt a bad track by any means. Listen and you will see.
16. This Very Moment
This is a nice ballad which featured on their album Emotional from 2002, not quite up with the best tracks on Emotional but still not bad and features both brothers sounding very good vocally. A nice enough track.
This is taken from their fourth album Emotional and is a midtempo track which doesnt quite live up to the best tracks on here but it certainly isnt a bad track at all.
18. Down for Life
This is featured on their fourth studio album and is one of the best tracks on that album. A gentle ballad that features a nice guitar with plays along gently and is joined by the soft drum beat and the smoothness of the vocals is what makes this track.
This is a great collection of some of their greatest hits aswell as some of their favourite album tracks from their four albums up to 2002. I expect them to be around for some years to come and they will probably come out with a collection of tracks they have released in this decade as this is mostly from the 1990's.
