"All Rise" was released late in 2001 and came as the debut for the UK boy band Blue. Consisting of Lee Ryan, Anthony Costa, Simon Webb and Duncan James, the Pop act (who tended to favour the R&B side of music shot to fame as their first single came out and they made an impact as one of few acts to last during a period when the music industry when through change and boy bands phased out.
1. "All Rise"
I felt that his was a great way to kick the album off as we see them ripping through their debut single and a tune that seems to round up exactly what they were as an act with a Pop-R&B jam that had a little club appeal and has them making the most of what they have to offer when it comes to laying down some strong vocals that put full use to song that they work with. It sets things up nicely and livens it all up from the get-go.
2. "Too Close"
This was a killer single from the act and one that really suited what people knew of them when you see that they went in to cover some classic R&B material, and chose to go back as far as 1997 when the Minnesota trio Next made their debut with a funky, and seductive joint. Here the band straight kill it on top of and improved production set to back it to another level without making to change it much when it comes to making it sound contemporary.
3. "This Temptation"
Using beats that I'm sure any fan of the R&B will immediately direct them to TLC's "No Scrubs" from their third album in 1999, this one has them pulling out another powerful jam that I felt was able to show that in the main body of the album (ignoring the singles) we have big things to expect from them as they start this end of the album with a little club jam that forces you right into the grooves that we had come to expect of them.
4. "If You Come Back"
This was another of the singles from the band and I felt that it did a lot for them as it primarily acted as a chance to show exactly how they could cope as they relaxed the more typical R&B stuff in order to come out with a ballad that pushed Lee Ryan out as the lead singer to allow him to bring out the absolute best in what he is capable of as a vocalist (making him stand far head of the others who act as a decent support).
5. "Fly By"
This is the original version to a track that they would put out as the final single to the album as "Fly By II" and I felt that this was another banger of a joint from the band as they once again try out something where they attempt to try out some of the things that helped American R&B acts working in this style with a heavy Hip Hop influence coming through. I can see why it was remixed for a single, but this one does it just as the latter remake.
As we come off all the singles on the album here we move on towards a powerful track from them and one that I felt had to be likened to the sort of state that *N Sync were at by this stage of their career as they were able to find a way to bring out heavy Pop material by taking from alternative musical influences that all seem to fit right in here without sounding as if they have been forced to any degree.
7. "Long Time"
This is a soothing tune from the act and one that appears to move things on a little for them as they try out a little something different in order to show just how well they are able to make an album that feels complete and so more of the more traditional, slower Pop songs were bound to creep in as this one did. It needs time to grow, especially if you only really do their R&B material, but I felt that it was another good one.
8. "Make It Happen"
It immediately becomes apparent that where we are in for a straight club banger of a jam from the act and it did all that I expect it would. However I felt that in spite of the fact I couldn't fault it for the power it has in it, the tune is held back slightly by the fact it has them using production that is so similar to what has already been heard on other jams from the record (especially when it comes to its singles).
9. "Back To You"
We get a funky joint from them here that was able to shake off all of the limitations that came with the track prior to this one and so it was able to bring things back for them and get it all back to the highest possible standard that you expect from them as we get a fun mix of Funk and Rock being added into the mix to compliment all that has already been given on the release to make it as exciting as possible.
10. "Girl You'll Never Understand"
We see them smooth things out with this one and I felt that it was a pretty well-valued tune on the track as it finds that they are made to change the themes of the music quite a bit in order to show just how much potential there is in them and where they could take it in the future. I felt that it didn't sound as natural as the rest on the thing, but with time I'd expect most who are into their music to enjoy it.
11. "Back Someday"
In this one they appear to keep things around about the same level where it's all about the two-stepping-paced slow jam material were they stick to the Pop end of things and only really dip subtly into the R&B end of it all. I felt that this one was much more in-line with what the Pop game was saying at the time. However, this led to me not really enjoying it as I had with others on the record.
12. "Best In Me"
The album ends with this track and I felt that it was a great way to close it out for them as we find that they come with a tune that rounds it all off nicely and reminds you of a lot that had come elsewhere on the record and all the sources that they took from in order to make the most out of what they are known for. It does a lot for the album and it can't really be said to be anything other than the best way to finalise things here.
This is a strong debut from the act and an album that I felt was able to offer far more than later releases with just how many alternative twists they added into it in order to make them stand out as a boy band of the time. There are lots of big tunes on here and aside from one average one, they come in well throughout.
Before they split up, I liked Blue (along with quite a few boybands in general!) and had at least two of their albums. This was their first album and I have to say that I'm not as keen on this as one of the later ones (Guilty) so there aren't many tracks that have actually made it onto my iPod. The ones that have are:
This was their debut single and got a lot of radio airplay at the time. It is quite an upbeat pop song with lyrics that make references to the courtroom ("All rise"; "you're on the stand"; "the jury will decide" etc.). As far as I can tell, the solo vocals appear to be split between Simon and Lee. For me, Simon's voice is quite generic while Lee's is quite different for a boyband member. He has a good voice for ballads and other slow tracks, which is probably one reason why he doesn't feature so heavily on this type of track. I quite like this track but I got bored of it soon after it was released due to the airplay and don't enjoy listening to it so much these days.
This is another mid-tempo pop song that is quite catchy. The solo vocals here are Lee and Simon again. For me, the track is let down slightly by the backing track which sounds like it is trying a bit too hard to be disco and gets on my nerves by halfway through.
***Girl I'll Never Understand***
This is a more laid-back track than the two that I've just mentioned. Vocally, this falls to Lee mainly, who has the best voice for this type of track. I think that the other solo vocals go to Simon, whose vocals I don't enjoy as much. I wouldn't class this as a ballad even though it is quite slow.
***Back Some Day***
Lyrically, this track is one of the most heartfelt on the album. Again, the vocals are split between Lee and Simon with pretty much an even split between the two, although Lee hits the bigger notes and sounds more impressive as a result.
***Best In Me***
This is another slow track and one of my favourites on the album. Yet again, the lyrics are split between Lee and Simon but both sound smooth. The harmonies also sound good from the little that can be heard in the background, although to be honest, you can't hear too much of them as Lee can be heard over the top of the rest of the group for most of the chorus (except for one or two lines towards the end of the track). I would say that Lee has the best voice for a ballad like this as he has a nice range, so I'm glad when he takes a good chunk of the vocals on this track.
As I hinted at the start of this review, this isn't my favourite album from Blue as for me, they went in a more mature direction with subsequent albums and I preferred that change. This seemed a decent enough album at the time but I have to admit that I'm not really keen on many of the tracks now - hence why I've only picked out four here! There are some good pop tracks on the album that I really liked when it was first released and this includes Bounce, Fly By, Make It Happen, Back To You and Too Close as well as All Rise and This Temptation that I've already included in the review. If you're a fan of the fairly upbeat pop tunes that Blue used to release, you might well enjoy this album but a lot of the tracks sound quite dated to me now. If you like ballads, there are a couple on here, including the single If You Come Back.
Blue are one of my preferred male vocal 'boy band' creations. Their music is not too cheesy and it appears they can actually sing well well and pull off some decent tunes in the process. Their debut album is a solid start.
Who are they:
Comprising Antony, Duncan, Lee and Simon, thet were at the peak of their fame at the turn of the century, notching up a successive run of top ten hits.
On this album:
'All Rise' starts things off and is an uplifting soulful piece of pop, with hints of r and b about it. The harmonies work really work here and the lyrics are pretty cool, it would have suited Boyz 2 Men just as well. They follow this up with the moody and ever so steamy 'Too Close' which I believe is a cover version; I think the group Next did this first. It boasts a hot under the collar chorus and a mid tempo rhythm.
The group up the ante a little on 'Fly By' and 'Bounce' as they prove they can slightly more upbeat numbers just as well. You could imagine driving along in an opentop car while playing'Fly By.'
'If You Come Back' showcases some superb vocals as the group sing their hearts out on a soppy ballad, carried off with raw emotion and integrity intact though.
Smooth and polished pop that knows its market.
There seems to be an overload of boybands at the moment, and whilst I admit to be being a Bros and Take That fan in my younger days, the majority of those around at the moment, such as Busted are just too young for me, and their music just does not does it for me! The only bands labelled with the boy band tag who I do like are Westlife along with Blue. Now for the music snobs amongst you, I know you will be pulling faces and claiming that their manufactured music is evil, I say, I know they are not award winning songwriters, and their success is as much about their image and looks as it is about the music, but that is ok, it is sometimes nice just to have something to sing along to in the car. Anyway, Blue are not boys....they are men, and very tasty ones at that! ***ALL RISE*** The first single on the album, and also their debut release in 2001. It is a magnificent pop tune, with a catchy chorus begging to be sing along to. It is a tried and tested formula, but the difference with Blue is that they have that glint in their eye. Unlike some of their younger counterparts, they know what they are talking about when it comes to a lot of the subject matter! Simon and Lee take front stage on this track, and Simon's rich soulful voice gives the track an unmistakable R&B feel. This was the track which thrust them into the public eye and straight in to the Top 5, and they have taken advantage of that opportunity, and their music has grown and matured since then, but this still remains one of my favourite Blue tracks. ***TOO CLOSE*** This was the second single released from the album, and it lived up to the big expectations created by their debut release, even reaching an unexpected number one position in the singles chart, which stunned a lot of the critics who had written them off as one hit wonders. It is a mellower track that it's predecessor, and has a pure pop feel, and it is here the band showed their raunchier side with so
me of the lyrics, and when you see this song performed live it is an excellent track. They are the real deal, they can sing, they can dance, they look good, and they also show on this album that they can in fact write decent pop tunes (not this track though as it is a cover), but most of all they entertain, and is that not the point of music? ***THIS TEMPTATION** This track is an up tempo song which is a great song to play at a party. The funky beat and excellent combined vocal efforts of the band give the listener an absolute gem of a track. Even though it is an upbeat song, it is sexy and seductive, and certainly makes me think of things other than music, and should have been released as a single, because it would have been a definite dance floor filler. I am surprised that this track did not manage to break the American market for them, as it sounds like a track which would go down in the R&B lead American market. Maybe they need to give it another try. The chorus is so catchy, that after only a couple of listens, it will have lodged itself in your head and refuse to move, leaving you to sing along! ***IF YOU COME BACK*** This is the first ballad on the album, and I love it. It was the third release from the album, and was released towards the end of 2001, giving the band their second consecutive number one single. This was the first track that I really noticed how versatile their voices are, especially the pitch of Lee's voice. Proof again, that their music is decent. The lyrics have substance, and the emotion in this track in particular in evident from the first note played. It is slick, soulful, and a song that I can happily play time and time again without tiring of it, as it is not too over the top, and the words are beliveable without being too sickly and too Americanised which is often a criticism of bands. ***FLY BY*** An absolutely stand out track on this album. It was released in Spring 2002, an
d it's chart position of number 6 does not do this track justice at all. The version on this album is a little less dancy than the version which was released, however both tracks retain a strong R&B influence. Simon raps in the middle of the track and it works really well, as do the vocal somersaults performed by Lee. This track really cemented them as one of the acts to watch, and they have gone from strength to strength since they created this strong platform to work from. The lyrics are not the best on the album, but I find myself singing along and not really caring that I sound completely ridiculous! ***BOUNCE*** This track is the dance floor filler of the album, and it really picks up the pace another notch or two, just in case you had mellowed out too much listening to the previous track. The bassline is excellent and really gets me in the mood when I am getting ready for a night (which is a rare thing nowadays!). Duncan takes a lot of the lead vocals, and there was a time when I was not sure if his gruff tones were my type of thing, but they have really grown on me. The chorus is rousing, and this is the strong point of the song backed up by a techno/keyboard arrangement. It is quite an aggressive track where the band sing about finding the perfect woman, and trying to get her to do the dirty with them. ***LONG TIME*** Another ballad, but it is different from the others as it does not try to fit into the neat ballad genre which seems to have been copied by so many of their counterparts with varying levels of success. This is a real soulful, melodic song with gorgeous vocals from the band. It is a perfect song to have on in the background as it is there without intruding too much, but the warmth of the track still shines through even when your attention is not completely focused on it, and to me that means the track has class. The longing that they feel when they are singing about the lady in question is evident with
every word, and that is why I love this, as it is the kind of song which can engulf me in the mood. ***MAKE IT HAPPEN*** Upping the tempo again with this track, and it is a brilliant vocal effort from Lee especially. It starts off with some harmonies from the band, and then into lead lyrics from Duncan, who shows another side to his voice. Each verse starts with a different member of the band singing, but they all end with Lee leading us into the chorus. I love the chorus, the verses skip along, but it is the chorus where the song really shines. It is a track which I am sure would have done well if it had been released as a single, or I can imagine it fitting in brilliantly onto a film soundtrack, where there was a significant love interest, as the song is about being lead on, and just wanting something to happen. ***BACK TO YOU*** The first word that springs to mind when describing is funky. The introduction to this song is packed with heavy guitars and powerful melodies. At first it seems that the song will not live up to the first fifteen seconds as the first verse is initially quite mild, and then Lee's vocals bring the song to life, and the pace is relentless from there on in. The vocals are shared by the band, and their voices compliment each other well, but once again, it is Lee's performance which sticks in the mind. Simon gets the chance to rap again in the middle of the song, and whilst it is ok, I am left wondering if it is slight showcasing, as there was really no other need to include it on the track as its omission would not make the quality of the track suffer. ***GIRL I'LL NEVER UNDERSTAND*** Nearly every album I have ever listened to has a filler track, and I am afraid to say that the debut release from Blue is no exception, and this track is without doubt the filler. It is a mid tempo track which never really takes off either way, and leaves me feeling quite flat. The band sing abo
ut a woman that they admire and want to spend time with, but she is a mystery and they cannot work out what makes her tick, hence the title of the song. Even the end of the song disappoints as it sounds like it is ended prematurely. Not my cup of tea, and a huge disappointment, as I was convinced this album would not need a filler track, as the quality of the tracks at the start of the album was so high. ***BACK SOME DAY*** Oh dear, the quality of the tracks seems to have slipped dramatically. Why do bands do this? I would rather have an album which is 10 tracks long, but they are all excellent, rather than having a longer album with under par material like this. I feel more cheated by this standard of work than if the album was shorter, because it starts to leave me feeling quite flat when I have come to expect a certain standard of track, only to be let down when I feel palmed off with under par dross like this! I can understand why people criticise when they listen to something like this. It is very similar to the previous track, and again it just cannot decide what style it wants to be, and limps sadly to the end before sounding like it is being cut off. ***BEST IN ME*** The band redeem themselves with this beautiful ballad to end the album. This song gives me real goosebumps when I listen to it, and it mellows me out more than any other track on the album. The vocals are not forced and are soothing to the ear, and you can barely hear the instruments which are accompanying the vocals, and this gives a lovely accapella feel to the track, but most of a gentle touch. The lyrics are quite predictable, but in this case they work very well. It is the perfect end to the album, and always leaves me with a real feeling of wellbeing. This is a song about being with someone who is so perfect for you that everything they do shows you in your best light, and you compliment each other perfectly, hence the title of the song. I
would highly recommend this album, if you are a lover of pop music, and it is refreshing to listen to a band who try different styles, and put a more mature mark on the pop music scene.
You cant tell me you aren?t attracted to these guys! They are drop dead gorgeous, but do we only like them for there bodies or do we actually like and respect the music they make? A lot of girls see blue as just fit boys and will go to there concerts to watch them sweat on the hot stage (that and seeing lee in tight jeans!!). They are seen as sex symbols and get a lot of publicity because of that. They have many relationships and flings with other celebrities which also publicises there sexy image. They perform love songs which also creates there image. There love songs are seen as sexy as well and so girls practically drool over them. There album ?All rise? has a lot of different styles. There are mushy slow love songs and also more dancey and up beat songs as well. Yeh there are a lot of girls that just like drooling over them but there are some that do like there music a lot, if people didn?t then there songs wouldn?t have done so well in the charts, would they!?!
Following the footsteps of their debut album "All Rise" Blue have hit back again with another top album! Which I have to say not many bands can beat their first album. I always find once a band have released a good album, nothing else they release ever compares. However with this new Blue album I was proved wrong. The album has 15 tracks, the first of which is "One Love" which you may recognise as it is their current single out (Nov 02). The second song on the album is Riders. The beginning of this song reminds me of something Chinese, it then flows into the guys talk/singing. I must point out Lee does Blue proud on this song...his voice is so stretched (I really cant explain what I mean)...put it this way he can hold a note! The third song is Flexin. This song starts off all nice and slow, with guitares and the guys "ooh"ing and flows into them singing a lovely slow song. The tempo builds up at the chorus and goes down a tempo when they go to 2nd verse. I'd recommend this song for (nookie) lol!!! The fourth song is Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word. And yes it is the Elton version, and Yes again Elton does sing on it. This is fairly much the same as original just with a bit of Blue, scratchy voice, holding long notes style. The fifth song on the album is She Told Me.... I could go on and explain about each song, but to be honest if you know Blue you know their style. The album is very much recommended by me if you are 1. a pop fan, 2. boyband fan or 3 like r'n'b type music with a bit of a beat. Heres a full list of the songs: 1. One Love 2. Riders 3. Flexin 4.Sorry seems to be the hardest word 5.She told me 6.Right here waiting 7.U make me wanna - not the usher version!!! 8.Ain't got you 9.Supersexual 10.Don't treat me like a fool 11.Get down 12.Privacy 13.
Without you 14.Invitation 15.Like a friend if you really want to know my fave songs are track7- U make me wanna, And to add to that I bought it online at cdwow.com for £8.99
I think this is 1 of the best boy bands ever they are really doing really well with their album which went straight to number 1 which was all rise BLUE here are the songs on the album: 1. All Rise 2. Too Close 3. This Temptation 4. If You Come Back 5. Fly By 6. Bounce 7. Long Time 8. Make It Happen 9. Back To You 10. Girl I'll Never Understand 11. Back Some Day 12. Best In Me. The ones they have released so far are; all rise, too close, if you come back, fly by and long time. Recently lee Ryan from blue had an accident in a go-kart crash he has serious scares on his chest but might not be able to do serjury and may be scared for life. BLUE have been to the brits once and won 2 awards which were best newcomer and best single which I think is good for their first time, they are currently recording their new single Best In Me and their new album so what out for them I think they will be as good even better than the first. There have been rumors that Duncan is dating Kate Lawler from big brother he says there not there just good mates and he is just glad that she is the first girl to win the competion
When i bought the cd i was expecting it to be really good, and i was certainly surprised to find it even better than i expected. The best songs are 'Make it happen', 'Girl i'll never understand' and 'Long time'. They combine smooth R'n'B style with pop music creating their own unique sound. Like 'Too Close' and 'Fly by', a few of the other songs such as 'Bounce' are all about clubbing and pulling, a little repetitive i thought, but still each song has a unique sound and they have managed to steer clear of making them sound the same, even though they are all based around the same idea.
Last week I decided to add a little 'BLUE' to my CD collection and I have since been very impressed by the debut album, I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. 1. All Rise The album came from the lads first single, 'All Rise' This song is about a court case so I am led to beleive and I remember the fab video to this track. This song is catchy and great to listen to, a very good opener to the album! 2. Too Close Another great hit from the Blue boys. I think this was the lads second single and again a very sucessful one. I enjoy listening to this track, it is well known, cool and enjoyable. It is also very catchy and I know I'll be playing this one through the summer! 3. This Temptation This song is fab, it really gets stuck in your head! It's catchy and very original Blue style. The song is all about tempting and temptation, it is a really great song and quite long too, it can get a little annoying but personally I really like this tune. 4. If You Come Back Now we're back to another released track from the boys, this is a much slower song compared to the previous tracks, this song is a personal favourite of mine and couldn't stop listening to it when it was released. This track is quite touching and also quite sad but a lovely song about love which I find very enjoyable to listen to. 5. Fly By I love this track, this is Blues latest single and it's just so catchy! This track is a real influence on the album and comes along with a superb video too. This song is pleasant, enjoyable and really 'groovy'!!! I think this song is doing well in the UK charts at the present moment. 6. Bounce I didn't think Blue could produce another dancy track as good as fly by but they did and this is it following up from the fab previous track. I love this track, it is so catchy and I love the lyrics. This song carries on the fab int
roduction to the album. 7. Long Time This track is slow and lovely to listen to, its all about waiting a long time to see someone. It features the lads voices really well and I love listening to this track, it blends in well with the other tracks and is one of my personal faves on the album. It is quite a long song too. 8. Make It Happen I like this track, it is quite different from others on the album, it isn't as good as the other tracks but still a good tune! It is quite beaty and fast but nothing too dancy, I like the style of the track and the lyrics in the verses are quite thought provoking too. 9. Back To You This is quite a beaty track from the boys and I like it, it's pretty dancy and the lads voices are used strongly on the track which I like. The verses are sung quietly but the chorus is great, really catchy and partyable! 10. Girl I'll Never Understand This track is a little slower than previous ones and is a story about mis understanding. The song is lovely and the lyrics are what make the song so good. The chorus is lovely and really pleasant to listen to, I personally really like this song. 11. Back Some Day Still quite slow, this song is all about coming back and not to worry or let go, suggesting the track is about love and strong relationships. This song is caring and touching as well as pleasant to listen to. I like this track a lot. 12. Best In Me This track finishes off the album really well, its a slow 'ballad' like song about loving someone speical. Quietly sung lyrics and a soothing chorus make this song a peaceful end to a superb album. The track title explains the song, when you are in love and are together you bring out the best in each other and make each other the happiest you can be, I love this song because of it's meaning and also the loving lyrics and brilliant beats. This ends a brilliant album rea
lly well and this track will be released soon. I can listen to this whole album without skipping any tracks because they are all just so good, this is a superb debut album from a brilliant band, they surely have more sucess to come because of their amazing individual and group talents. Hope I've helped anyone reading, thanks and best wishes emma xXx :0)
Last year the pop world went wild for the new sensational boy band Blue! If any of you have listened to their music or have bought their album ?All Rise? I am sure you will agree that Blue are a talent to be watched. Already winning a Brit Award for best newcomers this year blue look destined for huge things. As I enjoyed all three singles that have been released and the new one currently on the go I thought I would give the album a go. The album is described as ?A fantastically mature debut album?, ?Smooth, slick and super sexy?. In that respect I have to agree one of the best albums I have bought in a while and here is my run down of the tracks and the CD itself. # 1 ~ All Rise This was first single release form these guys and shot straight into the charts at # 4 and hung about the charts for weeks. The song starts of with a fantastic intro that I debate is either a harmonica or an accordion type instrument any one know give us a shout! The song is seemingly to do with being honest in a relationship and this is the lover confronting the cheating party! You all know this was about for ages and is a great song! # 2 ~ Too Close This song is very mature and is actually the song that they used at their audition with Virgin and they asked if they could record it at a later date Virgin agreed just as well as this gave Blue their first # 1 back in August of last year. This is very soulful and has a superb R ?n? B feel all they way through the song, through the chorus there is some excellent female vocals who I believe is AWSA but not to sure who she is and not been able to find any other info on her. I like this one very relaxing! # 3 ~ This Temptation Starting of very much like Spice Girls ?Holler? and continues on with pretty much the same beat and tempo throughout but unique in it?s own way as Blue?s great vocals kick into action. A fairly upbeat number that would be good as a
single release and would prove the guys really do mean business in the pop world. A powerful verse at the end brings the song to an excellent climax. # 4 ~ If You Come Back This is single number 3 from the album and second # 1 and is a beautiful and amazing soul song that is an excellent ballad. This is the first track that Blue ever recorded together and is the one that really stuck in my mind as the one that shows how diverse the boy?s vocal ranges can be. This song has an excellent video to accompany it making the entire band look all the part hunks that they really are! # 5 ~ Fly By Single release number four and receiving excellent support from the likes of CD:UK and getting absolutely loads of air play on radio ensuring that this should get another high chart position when it is released in March although up against stiff competition as Gareth Gates (Pop Idol) and George Michael release their material on the same day. Again very soulful material fairly mellow with a catchy upbeat chorus sounds very American and is obviously the sound the guys are trying to achieve a great song just a shame it could be denied a number one spot. # 6 ~ Bounce This is a very upbeat and jumpy song with a funky bass line that sounds very much like the guys are having a brilliant time. An excellent album filler however, the end of the song is fairly repetitive with a very long instrumental section that leads back to more vocals of the same stuff and back to instrumental. Apart form that good song! # 7 ~ Long Time This one starts of just like ?If You Come Back? and proves to be the same sort of slushy ballad. The chorus is beautiful though and is powerful through to the end and I find I listen to this one on repeat every now and again. # 8 ~ Make It Happen We are back to upbeat and female vocals, however, this track I find very non-committal. The chorus in this one aga
in is powerful but does not really take me anywhere. Through to the end of the track the female vocals really compliment the band?s vocals and make it a little more interesting and has a BSB kind of feel to it. # 9 ~ Back To You This song is a big no for me as it seems to be Blue?s attempt at rock and they don?t suit it. Maybe just this song but it sounds very hollow and as if the guys sound strained and not really enjoying it at all. With the rapping in the middle it just sounds absolutely ridiculous. # 10 ~ Girl I?ll Never Understand Here we are straight back to the Blue we know and love and a great slushy ballad and a song that would make excellent single material. This is pure R ?n? B and would go down a storm in America. # 11 ~ Back Someday This is one of the longer playing tracks on the album and you guessed it, it is another ballad. Well that?s what the guy?s are good at these sorts of songs. It is a good song with good lyrics and is very easy to listen. The chorus is powerful and compliments the voices of all the guys and has a very Spanish feel to it I feel! # 12 ~ Best In Me This one is slow to start with very few words etc and does not really go anywhere, very accapella feel to it and shows that Blue are really good at what they do, however, not really fond of this one all that much. So for their first effort the guys have came up with a cracking debut although they do tend to over do it on the ballads a little. I like this album and look forward to another form these guys year after year! © JamesD22 2002 :o)
After three hit singles including two number 1's, Blue finally released their debut album. I decided to get this album after hearing all the hype about this great new boy band called Blue. Blue are Lee, Duncan, Antony and Simon. I was expecting to hear some cheesy ballads like the type that Westlife would sing but I was pleasantly surprised when I heard R 'n' B and mid tempo songs. Unfortunately I also heard some ballads which I think boy bands should avoid as usually they are dull and I skip them. I hope by the end of this review I'll have given you more reasons as to why you should by this album. 1. All Rise : the debut single which I think is definitely one of the stand out tracks on this album. It has a great beat and is the type of song that would make me want to dance. Another plus to this track is excellent vocal harmonies and catchy lyrics. 2. Too Close : the second single to be released and is also a cover of a track by an American R 'n' B act. I've heard the original version of this song and I have to say that I prefer Blue's version as they built up the music and they sing it better. This was also Blue's first number one which I think they deserved. 3. This Temptation : this track is the only song which has a dance feel to it. I really like it and I definitely think it should be a future single! The music is different from the rest of the album and the singing is also unusual. I like the part which goes " one night's not my styyylllleee " as Duncan sings it high pitched and it makes me laugh! 4. If You Come Back : this was the third single and is a mid tempo ballad. Usually when I hear these words I think " oh no! " but this track is actually very good and I wasn't surprised when it went straight to number one in the charts. It shows off Lee's vocal talents as the chorus has some hard to reach notes and he reaches them perfectly. 5. Fly By : t
he fourth single which was released not that long ago. I don't think this track is excellent but I don't dislike it either. The single version of this album was different to this version but I thought the single version sounded too much like " All Rise " and I thought it was cheeky of Blue to use a sample from a Notorious BIG song. I actually prefer this version but I could do without the American lyrics! That's one of the things which stops this track from being great. I love the music though. 6. Bounce : this track has a Carribean sound to it. The steel drums used remind me of a tropical beach which is definitely a good thing. I don't know if this track would be suitable for a party but it would be great for relaxing to. I think this song is okay but not brilliant. 7. Long Time : well I had to mention it sometime during this review and looks like I'm going to say it now. This track is you guessed it, a ballad. It has a decent beat but it's not one of the best tracks and I hope it is never released as a single. The thing is Blue sing this track a lot on TV appearances and they seem to like it so it'll probably end up as a single. I can't even begin to imagine what the video would be like! They should leave these tracks to Westlife. 8. Make It Happen : this is track is an upbeat track which is good after having to listen to " Long Time ". This is the kind of song that I would listen to but it doesn't make me want to sing along to it. It's an alright track but nothing fantastic. 9. Back To You : one of my favourite tracks. The chorus is very catchy and I like the way Lee sings " you know I'm coming back to you ". The only thing I don't like about this song is the rap. It isn't necessary and it doesn't make the track any better. The music's very hip for a boy band and it has a great beat. Perfect for singing along to. 10. Girl I'll
Never Understand : nnnoooo not another ballad! As usual this ballad is dull and the only thing I've got to say about it is I'll Never Understand how Blue could put such a boring track on this album! 11. Back Some Day : why do boy bands think it's a great idea to finish a great album with ballads? This song is okay for a ballad as it has a good rhythm and the vocals are strong. The only time I would listen to a track like this is when I need to go to sleep. 12. Best In Me : this is an acoustic mid tempo ballad and is not a good way of ending a great album. This is one of the worst songs on this album and there's not much else to say about it. Overall this album is a great album and I'd rather listen to an album by Blue than Westlife or A1 any day. The stand out tracks are definitely the singles and the only thing bad about this album is the ballads. However, if you like ballads then you'll probably love the ballads on this album as they are sung well but they're just not my thing. The only way you'll find out is to check out this album for yourself.
Four London lads making another boy band. Its been done before and it'll be done again. But, there was something else there for Blue, something that made them make everybody stop and listen. Whether you like them or not there?s no denying that these boys have talent. 2001 was a significant year for Lee Ryan, Duncan James, Simon Webbe and Antony Costa (members of Blue) as they released their debut single, ?All Rise?, and although it didn?t get to the number 1 spot, it definitely established the boys in there pop career. The Blue boys then released their second single, ?Too Close?, which went straight into the number 1 spot, proved that they had reached the hearts of girls everywhere. Both of these singles went silver selling in excess of 200,000 copies each. At the end of 2001 Blue released their debut album ?All Rise? which is a collection of tunes with a variety of producers. The album focuses on soulful tunes with smooth grooves, which shows off the boy?s voices. Songs rang from the up-tempo sounds of ?Too Close? to the harmonising pop classic of ?If you Come Back? which really shows Lee?s vocal skills. Early this year Blue announced a tour starting in November, which is now almost sold out ? this proves Blue?s popularity. Blue have been questioned about their vocal abilities and so on their tour they are playing with a live band. I?m sure the show will be a great success to the lads and all of their fans will enjoy it (yes, I have got tickets!) and Blue will carry on having a successful career for years to come.
I can't believe that's the name of my title, cheesy or what!?! Well, I couldn't think of anything else! I was given Blue's albulm All Rise for my Christmas, and although I really liked their singles which they'd previously released, I was very unsure about this albulm. I'm the sort of girl who only listens to the songs she's heard before, cause usually the rest are rubbish. But...I was very pleasantly surprised... I'm not going to go on about band members etc, I'll just give you the lowdown of the albulm, cause that's all your interested in! 1. All Rise The title track and the first released single. Hmm, I loved it when it first came out, but I get fed up with songs quickly and I think it's had too much radio airplay, so now it bores me. But it is a cool song. 2. Too Close This is an old song, from an old R & B band called Next (I think, please don't sue me if I got that wrong!). This is a very, very sexy song, and I love it. It's been released so you'll have heard it. All I can say is mmm, yes please... 3. This Temptation Not a bad tune, but one of those I prefer to skip. Upbeat and funky, but I find it boring. 4. If you come back Aww, this is a nice song. A serious turn it up full blast and sing along in your mirror song. I love it, but once again, coz its been released I'm starting to get bored of it. But it is a fantastic love song. 5. Fly by Very funky! The best thing about this song is trying to sing the chorus, bit of a tongue twister! Try it! Great song though. 6. Bounce I love this song. It has such a strong bass, I just have to dance to it. You'll love this song! 7. Long Time Another slow and soppy song. It's nice though, this albulm is a great one to listen to before your bed, songs like this are really relaxing. 8. Ma
ke it happen I like this song too (I'm starting to sound a little too repetitive, I apologise). The guys really do have fantastic voices (just thought i'd pop that in there!). You'd think by now I'd have turned this albulm off, since all the previously released songs are well gone, but it keeps getting better. This is your usual run-of-the-mill song, but its great. 9. Back to you The guitars are fantastic in this track. Go on turn it up a bit...louder...LOUDER! You just have to turn it up and jump about, it's the law! 10. Girl I'll never understand This is my favorite song on the albulm. Don't know why, it's just fantastic. The chorus is great to squeal along to. I love it. 11. Back some day One of the slower, yet still funky songs. I like this song. It's not rubbish, but not fantastic. Listenable. 12. Best in me If I'm honest I've skipped this song too many times to make a fair judgement on it. it's ok, but not one of the greatest. Well, there you go,the fastest, rubbishest run-down of Blue's All Rise. You're either gonna buy it or not, regardless of what I said. My opinion is just buy it, it won't kill you!!!
