Advantages: Some excellent tracks
Disadvantages: Some weak efforts
U2 are a massive band. They having been going for so long, and just seem to churn out good albums everytime. This album came out back in 2000, it has some really big tracks on it and sold very well. I was lucky enough to see the band live on this tour and was very impressed with them. But how good is this album? Well here is what i make of every song.
1. Beautiful Day - A great start to the album, fresh and powerful. This is a really big song, that should put a smile on anyone's face. It just says, go out, embrace life and see the beauty the world has to offer! Great! 9/10
2. Stuck In A Moment - This is a slower song, has some excellent lyrics. 'I am not afraid of anything in this world, there is nothing you can throw at me, that I haven't already heard'. Nice opening line. The music does not quite do it for me though and the chorus is a little weak. 7/10
3. Elevation - I love this song. Is a really powerful driven piece of music. Bono just belts out the lyrics and it sounds awesome! 9/10
4. Walk On - A really emotional peice of music. Think this is my favorite on the album, the words really get across some strong emotions and there is a wonderful sound to the song that really epitomises U2. 10/10
5. Kite - Another song filled with emotion. Bono was writing some of these songs as his father was dying. The emotion really comes through in the lyrics. 8/10
6. In A Little While - A beautiful riff kicks this song off. Is awesome, then Bono starts singing and for once spoils it! It's a good song, but think Bono is almost trying to hard with his singing. 8/10
7. Wild Honey - Catchy little song. Nothing to special about this one, but its a good song that I do enjoy. 8/10
8. Peace On Earth - A really slow chilled out song. Typical Bono lyrics about peace and justice etc... Not the best. 7/10
9. When I Look At The World - Getting to album fillers by this time. Its another decent song, but there is nothing special about it that makes it stand out. 7/10
10. New York - There are so many songs called New York! Can't some think of something different to sing about? Manchester? Bristol? Accrington? Anthing would do. Not a good song. 6/10
11. Grace - Another really chilled out song. And this is quite a good one. Its nothing special but as a nice chill out track it serves a purpose. 8/10
12. Ground Beneath Her Feet - Can they finish big. Not really. Its just another medicore song that does not do anything special. Poor finish to the album. 7/10
So overall it's a good album, but its not great. U2 have certainly done better albums down the years, and whilest there are some big tracks there are also so weak ones. Worth a listen but nothing special. 8/10
Summary: A decent album, but nothing special
