Advantages: Jaunty songs!
Disadvantages: Nothing
Alright Still is Lily Allens debut album. I love this album, and it's the best one I've brought recently! Although people I know are inclined to disagree!
1. Smile - This track is about how she gets revenge on her boyfriend that cheated on her and he gets beaten up. I wasn't too keen on this song, (before I brought the album) but it really grew on me. This is the song that has "explicit lyrics" in, which meant it was banned from MTV.
2. Knock 'em out. I hadn't heard this song before I brought them album. I LOVE this song, it's about getting rid of guys hitting on you, and some of the lyrics are hilarious! For example "can I have your number?" - "I lost my phone" or "I'm having a baby in 6 months".
3. LDN. I love this song as well! I liked it before I brought the album, although I didn't realise what it was, I had heard it in a club and alhtough I recognised it was clearly Lily Allen I didn't know what the song was. So when I put it in and played it, I was happy when I came across it! The song is about Lily Allen riding a bike through London, it appears to be cheery and very jolly/jaunty, but the lyrics have a darker emphasis, for example when she sees "a fella looking dapper sitting with his slapper" etc. But definately a little gem of a song!
4. Everythings just wonderful. This song doesn't really grab me like the others do. It's about how things go wrong, like she can't get a flat because she can't get a mortgage with bad credit etc.
5. Not big. I like this song, along with quite a lot of the songs, its cheerful sounding, but it's about her boyfriend where she sounds like she's trying to get back at him and how it's all his fault!
6. Friday Night. Again, this song is digging at people, this time, Lily is waiting to get into a club with a huge line and thinks they won't get in until quarter to two! The girl on the door gets on her wrong side by having security search her. I like this song as well!
7. Shame for you. This is another song digging at a boyfriend, who I'm assuming cheated on her, given the line "spreading your seed all over the town"! Personally I don't think this song is as good as the others on this album, although I'm sure it'll grow on me.
8. Littlest things. This song is about her relationship, but it contrasts quite a lot to the others about a relationship because it's about the good times, for example watching dvd's together, being someones missis and at the end of the song she is asking if it's the end. This song has grown on me, although I didn't hear it before I brought the album, and it didn't stand out to me before, but now it's very good.
9. Take what you take. I'm really not sure about this song! Again, the song is getting at someone for example "what the ____ do you know" and "who the hell are you though? I didn't ask for your advice etc" but I don't know why... Hmm...
10. Friend of mine. This song is getting at one of her girly friends, how the good old days have gone, and this girl is getting herself a bad reputation. Lily is questionning whether this girl even cares about what she's being called.
11. Alfie. This song is one of the reasons I brought this album! It was the first Lily Allen song I heard and I loved it straight away! It's about her brother Alfie and how he is a bit of a layabout, does nothing and needs to get a job! She's basically despairing of him.
Summary: It's still alright!
