Advantages: Reminds you of the show, Vonda has a nice voice, combination of different songs is interesting
Disadvantages: Not as tear-jerking as the show, a bit repetitive
I am totally addicted to the TV show (as you will have read in my opinion of it ;-)), so it was only natural that I decided to buy the soundtrack. As there are now 2 available, I wasn't sure which one to chose as the actual names of the songs didn't mean much to me, and in the end I chose this one purely because it had the theme tune on it - so that's at least one song I'd recognise!
Unfortunately, the album was a bit of a let down as it didn't trigger anywhere near the kind of emotions I usually experience when watching the show. Also, because the episodes which the songs correspond to were broadcast so long ago I can't remember their relevance to the show.
I am not sure why the title states that it is by Various Artists, as it seems to me that most of the songs are sung by dear old Vonda who, by the way, ought to get much more credit for the album - it was a bit unfair to put Ally on the front, I think.
Here is the track listing:
1. Searchin' For My Soul {the theme tune}
2. Ask The Lonely
3. Walk Away Renee
4. Hooked On A Feeling
5. You Belong To Me
6. Wildest Times Of The World
7. Someone You Use
8. The End Of The World
9. Tell Him
10. Neighborhood
11. Will You Marry Me?
12. It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)
13. I Only Want To Be With You
14. Maryland
As you have probably recognised, most (or all?) of these songs are covers of timeless classics - personally I don't think there is anything wrong with that, but a lot of people may disagree.
As for actually listening to this album, well, it's quite nice to hear once or twice but it's not the sort of thing I'd constantly have on my stereo as I have a feeling that it would soon begin to bug me...
