Advantages: some good covers

Disadvantages: rather camp

What could be a better way to spend an evening than unwinding with an entire album of gay anthems. There are many songs on here which will brighten up a dull night or provide a suitable soundtrack for a house party with close friends.

The album is spread over two discs, which gives you extra listening time. There are quite a lot of cover versions on here, so you will probably recognise some of the songs. Belle Lawrence tackles the radio smash 'Bad Day' by Daniel Powter and makes it accessible for dancefloors. It is a record which shouldn't work as a dance hit, but it strangely does. Less successful is the cover of 'That's My Goal' which was made famous by Shayne Ward. The vocals are fine, but the song smacks of X Factor and would not get me on a dancefloor.

The Killers' 'Somebody Told Me' is given a makeover too. It works fine, though it lacks the brutal energy of the original version.

There are some well known gay anthems thrown in for good measure. Check out 'Haven't You Heard' which is as camp as you like, full of synth pleasure and dazzling chord changes.
'Free Gay And Happy' has a dodgy title, but is amusing and fun for a few minutes, if not a little overbearing in parts.

The drawback here is that you get one unmixed CD and a mix CD and both of the CDs use the same tracks, so there is a lot of repetition. I would have liked more variety and maybe some Jimmy Sommerville covers in there. The cover artwork is gripping and will make you feel flustered.

I recommend this album for parties, gay and bisexual men and for people who like cheesy pop music with a dance twist.

Summary: camp fun
