Advantages: Catchy, lyrical genius, classic pop rock
Disadvantages: Noooone whatsoever
American Hi-Fi is an American alternative rock based in Los Angeles, California, orignally hailing from Boston, Massachusetts. The Band is best known for their 2001 hit single, "Flavor of the Weak".
-Yes, i took that from Wikipedia, but atleast i'm honest :) No, really, that's the best way to introduce the bad....they stole it from me really.......*Smiles inconvincingly*
Sadly, the band only released one damn good album, and that was this, their self titled debut.
American Hi-Fi are you're typical pop rock band, but they excell with thrashing cheeky little tunes which somewhat remind you of a Blink/Greenday blend. They are simply a catchy emo band who refuse to admit or be ashamed of the fact that they are a cliche of others, and that is why i love them!
I would say that overall, this is a highly recommendable album, one of the few in my collection which doesn't have a single sucky song on it. The best here being.......
2. Flavour Of The Week. This is their mosty famous track, a song about a guy who hates a guy who has a girl that the guy likes (ergo, i fancie girl, but her bf's a d**k) But all in all, this is good, as he sings what is basically a moderately catchy rant. The tune here is the gem, with random interludes of electric guitar, and a sweet solo at 1:59. This is a throbbing wee beauty, that i would happily go to bed with, or at least buy breakfast for....would i let her stay the next moring? I don't know, cause i've been drinking, and this song is so beautiful that i don't know whether or not i'm talking about it or my lovely girlfriend anymore.....
5. I'm A Fool.
Now, this may be a wee bit of a emo popish song, as he sings about a girl he simply fancies, but he sings here quite well with an electro tinge to his voice, and the pulsing guitar in the background is never ending. Once again, AHF relies largely on electric air guitar style here. and pull it off well, against a well paced chirpy chorus, which represents angst at a level that makes me wants to kill myself with a smile on my face! Do i know what i'm talking about? Hell No! I'm lost in the base of this b******g song!
10. Another Perfect Day.
This is, all in all, one of the best accoustic songs out there. Now, such a statement may be up for deliberation, but check it out right, youtube it, and see if you disagree!
APD is a tune about a guy who loves a girl, and is in doubt over his feelings. This is simply beautiful though, as the songs pace is slow and accompanies well to a gradual melodic guitar backbeat. If you want an idea of this track, think of Unintended by Muse or Time of Your Life by Greenday, and you can get an idea of the style, pace, and class of this track. If you haven't heard of Unintended or TOYL, then i'd like you to take a long walk and think about where your life's going....really!
I hope that you appreciate this somewhat unconventional review, but i simply love this album so much that right now i am listening to it whilst strumming accoustic guitar, and crying in the corner....*sigh*
Peace out y'all!!!!
p.s. Buy this!!!!
