American pie, A smutty juvenile American comedy production. With a smutty juvenile American soundtrack to go with. Well not so much smut as there is in the film. With the likes of Blink 182 and Third eye blind, and a whole host of other rebelious, juvenile, one hit wonder bands that no one has heard of. All songs face issuse of teenage anxiety, nothing philosophical. The overall style of the soundtrack is that kind of fresh pop-punk frenzy, which is becoming more and more popular these days, especially during the summer. This soundtrack is a must for the alternative teenager, but will also be a soundtrack for summer for those juvenile teenage summer parties and BBQ's. On a whole no big name bands (except Blink 182) but a whole load of big tunes.

      Very helpful

Anyone who's seen the modern-day comedy classic that is AMERICAN PIE should know the kind of music on offer here. It's a fairly solid compilation of US alternative/rock cuts, mostly played by bands you've never heard of, and may never hear of in the future, but most of who clearly know their way around a good tune. Strangely the weakest tracks by some distance here are from the established heavyweights in the rock field - Blink-182's 'Mutt' and Sugar Ray's 'Glory' are both rubbish, and Third Eye Blind's 'New Girl' isn't fantastic either. As big names go, that's about as good as you're gonna get on this album, although Dan Wilson of radio-friendly rockers SEMISONIC (they did that 'Secret Smile' song a couple of years back) also crops up on the acoustic 'Good Morning Baby', a duet with the strangely-named BIC RUNGA. The best track on the album is called 'You Wanted More' by TONIC, an angsty rock track in the Matchbox 20 vein, closely followed by 'Summertime' by BACHELOR NUMBER ONE, a wonderful tune which indeed should be played loud in the summer - it's one of the lighter, poppier tracks on the album, and is a fabulous piece of work. Also worth listening out for are 'Super Down' by SUPER TRANSATLANTIC, and 'Find Your Way Back Home' by DISHWALLA, which are further examples of the radio-friendly US college rock which dominates most of this album. Lyrically the album is surprisingly downbeat, as titles such as 'You Wanted More' and 'Super Down', although the mood certianly lightens in the second half, with aforementioned songs by Bic Runga & Bachelor #1. The album is really only let down by the Blink 182 and Sugar Ray tracks, and the last couple, by LOOSE NUTS and ATOMIC FIREBALLS, which fit in with the Blink182 genre of music, but don't do the album any favours at all. Out of the 13 tracks there
's 8 or 9 solid tracks therefore, and generally the CD serves to compliment the film well, which is an important quality to a sountrack CD, and one which is often not pulled off. Here though, generally speaking, it works.
