Advantages: a classic

Disadvantages: they don't make them like this any more

1990 was an interesting year in Metal. Glam rock was in a downward spiral, and metal itself was going through big changes. Hip hop was becoming the dominant force in music, and metal was left scrambling to find its place or risk going the way of disco. Some acts thrived, such as Slayer with their release "Seasons in the Abyss", and others began to falter, such as Metallica with their so-called "Black Album" only joking i love it really. One such act that thrived, however, was Anthrax. Released in 1990, "Persistence of Time" is probably the best Anthrax album ever, but also one of the best metal albums of all time. All along, Anthrax had been proving wrong the Heavy Metal stereo types, promoting peace and the self. All of the things that Anthrax had done so well over the years combined with te mature musicianship of music veterans to create a powerful album, musically, and lyrically. Again, Anthrax is almost the Anti-Tool - Songs support the self esteem, and crack down on the establishment, while supporting brotherhood amongst all people. The "title" track "Time" leads of the album in a doomsday clock fashion, and the album never looks back. "Blood", "Keep it in the family", and perhaps the finest track on the album, "In My World" follow. The album also contains the horror movie anthem "Belly of the Beast" and has an instrumental intro track called "Intro To Reality". Rob Zombie himself probably loves this song. After the punkish "Got the Time" the album is a little weaker for the last few tracks, but finishes strong with "Discharge". In a nice switch, Anthrax used very few naughty words in this one, making it safe for almost everyone, and allowing the true messages of the songs to come through. This album is one of the greatest metal albums of all time, and deserves a listen by all hard rock fans.
