I haven't listened to an album this many times in a row in years. It's been four months and I'm not sick of it yet. So many layers... this thing is knock-down beautiful. We start with Smokers Outside Hospital Doors. Really great song. I'm already a sucker for that syncopated beat, but with Tom Smith's (lead singer) rich voice, and the multi-layered bittersweet guitar and piano work... this song makes me cry. Truly an epic start. The album continues through the title track "An End Has a Start" with a deceptively snappy beat for a song about death. It's definitely my favorite track. Then on through a slower turn in "The Weight of the ... Read the complete review

EDITORS To be honest I have never been a big fan of the Editors that was until I heard their latest singles on Radio 1. I really liked them and ended up humming along to them all day. I decided to take the chance and buy the album. It was on offer in Woolworths at £7.97 and placed in a prominent position so I didn’t really have a choice. I am glad to say that I have listened to the album, and what an album it is. I would definitely rate it up there with such bands as Muse, Coldplay and Embrace all of which I really enjoy listening to. There is something strangely hypnotic about the album, I don’t know if it’s to do with the excellent ... Read the complete review

Having impressed the musical world with the impressive debut album The Back Room in 2005, Editors returned in 2007 with this follow up. It was going to be hard to top the success of the debut album which had won a couple of awards and picked up a Mercury Music Prize nomination. It seemed however that the Birmingham based 4 piece weren't going to be put off and returned to impress with An End Has a Start. It hit the album charts at number 1 and has contained a couple of singles that have won the band a large number of new fans. The album was produced by the band with the help of Jacknife Lee, who seems to be working with an impressive list of bands, making some ... Read the complete review

The editors are a four piece indie rock band from Stafford in England. "An End Has A Start" is the sophomore album from the band, building upon the sound and success of the debut album "Back Room". It was released in mid-2007, and gained The Editors fans through the festivals of 2007. The album topped the heights of the debut, hitting number 1 in the albums chart. "An End Has A Start" is undoubtedly a good album. With its synth style, similar to Echo And The Bunnymen or Joy Division, it is a step away from the sound of the initial album. With their brilliant debut album The Back Room, it was clear that Editor's had the musical gravitas to craft another equelly compelling second album. But in my opinion, they didn't. For those of you that haven't heard Editor's then their sound is something like Interpol (vocally) and are definitely neo-post-punk musically. Guitars surge at the beginning of most songs aiming for something breathtakingly brilliant...trouble is that they never quite seem to get there. The songs some how begin to slump after the initial promise they offer. The lyrics are still thought provoking and moody, delivered perfectly by the direct and edgy vocals and the music ...
