An Other Cup, Yusuf Islam, 2006 -------------------- Background -------------------- Steven Demetre Georgiou, otherwise known as Cat Stevens has a bit of a habit of changing his name. In 1978 he changed it again to Yusuf Islam after his conversion to Islam, he now prefers just 'Yusuf'. This may be down to one of the funnier stories to come out after 9/11 when Yusuf was detained at New York's JFK airport for fear of his supposed terrorist sounding name! Cat Stevens was a very popular singer songwriter from the 60's and early 70's producing some highly acclaimed albums such as Tea For the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat. ...  Read the complete review

I write this review as someone who likes Cat Stevens' music, but is not an expert on it, and as someone who is unfamiliar with his more religious releases as Yusuf Islam. The album opens with Midday (Avoid City After Dark), an upbeat, joyous, positive song with nods to his newfound cultural roots but sounding enough like he did of old, so as to appeal to both sets of listeners. Heaven/Where True Love Goes sounds like a step back in time to Tea For The Tillerman. Classic Cat Stevens.
