I was fonder of Texan neoclassical musicians Angels of Venice before it became clear that the majority of their material consists of eccentric cover versions of famous songs, from classical composers to the Rolling Stones. Led by mandolin/harp player Carol Tatum, the Angels' sound is string-based neoclassical mixed with some elements of new age music, specifically the exotic flair added by recurring bongos and flutes. Their pieces, when Tatum actually composes them herself, are accessibly short and entertainingly dynamic, and this album sounds much like the more energetic and memorable sections to the soundtrack of a film set in the Far East.
