Advantages: funky dance tune, good for dancing to
Disadvantages: overplayed
Am writing this as we look back and reflect on the summer gone by. Ahhh. :-) This year there does not have seemed to be one "song of the summer" in particular. Some argue that the closest there has been to such is Roger Sanchez - Another Chance, which has been extremely popular both in the charts and the dancefloors of the UK as well as The Party Capital of the World, Ibiza. The first time I heard this song I loved it. After purchasing the single as soon as it was released (about a month after I first heard it) I also found that the chillout mix included on the single was also very good. However, I do feel that such songs as this are overplayed on the radio. Airplay to promote and get the song noticed is all very well, but sometimes, as is the case with this song, hearing the song constantly makes you sick and tired of it. Now the only time I enjoy it is at loud volumes in a club ('cos it's a real "floorfiller"), it's not a cd I'd put on to listen to at home anymore. The video for the single is cute, a girl wandering around with a bic plastis heart, which gets smaller and smaller as people reject her, but larger again when she finally finds someone to appriciate her. However it does not seem to have any relevance at all to the song itself! I don't think this song will be seen as a "classic" in such a way as "Spiller - Groovejet" has been.

- 09/09/01 I'd certainly say this was the tune of the summer, and I would also say it will become more of a classic than Spiller's "Groovjet".
I agree it was played too much on the radio, but still love the track I'm afraid - sign of a quality track, liking it no matter how much you here it.
Yep, the chill out mix (Afterlife Mix, I believe it's called) is pretty good, although I prefer the original's uplifting bass line.
Look out for the Tom de Neef dub - not sure if it's on the CD single, but I've got it on the vinyl double pack, and it's pretty wicked.
Cheers,
Sam
P.S - I reckon to warrant a VU, you need to put a little more detail about the actual track. e.g. write about how the tune and bass line are really uplifting, but the vocals are quite sad. |
