Advantages: Good songs, great vocals
Disadvantages: Not to everyones taste
I think John Barrowman is a lot like Marmite, you either love him or hate him. I do love him and all that he does but hubby his album is his 5th which was released in 2007 and features 13 cover songs.
Tracks:-
1. All Out Of Love - Running time of 3.53. This is a very well know song which John sings very well and there is a lovely soft ballad feel to it.
2. You're So Vain - running time of 3.53. This song was originally sung by Carly Simon but this version which John does is quite good. I am not particularly a fan of this song but I do always end up singing along!
3. She's Always a Woman - running time of 3.21. This was originally sung by Billy Joel and I was a but sceptical about John being able to pull of a version of this but I was surprised as he does a very good job and sings from the heart.
4. Time After Time - running time of 3.57. This was originally sung by Cyndi Lauper. The vocals which John gives on this song are good and he manages to put a new twist on the song which I really do like.
5. Weekend In New England - running time of 3.45. This was originally sung by Barry Manilow. I had not heard of this song before listening to it on this album but have to say that I do like it and the song has some lovely words and John sings it very well.
6. Every Little Thing She Does is Magic - running time of 2.31. This was originally released by the Police but John again does a great version and I do enjoy singing along to this track which I very well known. It is one of the more up tempo songs on this album.
7. If You leave me Now - running time of 3.41. This was originally sung by Chicago and written by peter Cetera. I do like this song and the vocals are good and the way he sings the song is great and he does give it a little twist from the original.
8. Your Song - running time of 3.17. This song is from the film Moulin rouge. I love this song in the film and I am glad that John has included it in this album. He gives the vocal lots of meaning with the way he sings them and puts across lots of emotion and feeling in this song.
9. Please Remember Me - running time of 4.20. This is another song which I was not familiar with before hearing it on this album. I am not sure who sang the original but overall this is a good track with nice vocals but one which I do not have any problems with skipping.
10. Heaven - running time of 4.03. Originally sung by Bryan Adams this track is very nice and pleasant. Again there are good vocals on the song.
11. Being Alive - running time of 3.13. Another track which I was not familiar with from the title but once I had listened to it I recognised it. Some good vocals and John again manages to put his emotions across with the way he sings the song.
12. Feeling Good - running time of 3.57. This was originally sung by Barbara Streisand in a musical, I cannot think which one. The vocals a great for this song and I enjoy listening and singing along to it.
13. All By Myself - running time of 4.25. The original version of this song I believe was sung by Eric Carmen but there has been several other people who have re-recorded this. I love the song but I don't think there is anything special which makes this stand out from the other re-recorded versions.
Overall I do enjoy this album and think that John barrowman does have a good voce. He is able to show his range with the variety of songs which he has chosen for this album and despite this album being mainly ballads it is still very good and a great listen.
The consistency of track is great and there are only a few which I am not 100% on. The album was released in 2007 by Sony BMG. The cover of the CD has a picture of John from the shoulder upwards and there is a small booklet inside the cover which has details of the tracks and also a nice few paragraphs written by John with he gives thanks to the people who helped him make this album.
I managed to pick my copy up for the bargain price of £2 from EBay and thoroughly enjoy listening to it. Hubby has banned it from the car though as he really does not like John Barrowman even though he likes some of the songs which are sung on here. I do recommend this CD to all fans of John and to anyone who enjoys a good easy listening CD which is packed full of great 2well known songs.
Summary: John Barrowman gives a great album of cover songs
