Having formed in Gainesville, Florida in 1992 as a Power pop three piece, the music of Less Than Jake soon progressed and evolved meaning that the band now stand strong as one of the best known American Ska Punk bands of the past decade. Having now released eight albums and with another on the way; Less Than Jake are a band that are definitely still going strong. 'Anthem' was the bands seventh studio album, released in 2003 and containing the hit singles of 'She's Gonna Break Soon' and 'The Science Of Selling Yourself Short', two of the bands most commercially successful single releases to date. Although perhaps not the best album to have been released by the band, ... Read the complete review

Anthem is the fifth studio album from the america ska punk band less than jake. I have always been a fan of this band just because of the energy they put into each of their songs, all their songs are great in their own way and there hasn't been an album from them that I have been disappointed in yet. The first song gets the album off to a cracking start it at first seems like its actually going to be quite a slow song but you couldn't be more wrong as when it gets going its really fast. The song is pretty good but the only thing I don't like about it is how the chorus kicks in from the verse it just seems to jump and doesn't link and this is the same for the ... As a live act, Less Than Jake seemed to tour permanently and it seems mean to reward their circle pit starting energy with a less than positive review, but here goes anyway: Anthem is a perfect example of what Less Than Jake do as a group, but unfortunately for the listener this means that their sound hasn't really evolved over the years and leaves us wanting a little more variety. Their particular style of disaffected melodic ska with big choruses and a lethal dose of self-pity sounds fantastic when you're a teenager, but starts to seem a little sad when you're in your mid-twenties (and the band must be considerably older). There is only so long that a group ... Read the complete review

This is the fifth studio album from Less than Jake and was released in 2003. I bought this album on a whim one day, having heard "All My Best Friends Are Metalheads" on Tony Hawk's 4. The shop didn't have "Hello Rockview" that day, so i decided to get this album instead. From the moment i heard the opening song "Welcome to the New South", i was hooked, i've since become a big Less Than Jake fan. This is one of the best albums that I've ever bought. Fantastic from start to finish. This album is basically one great song after another. The highlights of this album (as hard as it is not just to pick every song on there) are ... Anthem by LTJ is clearly a good album. Songs such as 'motown never sounded so good' and 'plastic cup politics' demonstrate fine punk songs. There are also many other good songs on this album. Each song tends to have a catchy chorus, and this album is listenable to a wide audience. Granted, the style of music is somewhat different to albums 'hello rockview, losing streak and borders and boundaries' but anthem is nonetheless a fine album.'The science of selling yourself short' is clearly a highly appealing song with a funky beat and good chorus. 'the brightest bulb has burned out' is a good way to finish the album with a slow buildup before the song explodes. A fitting end ... Read the complete review
