... expect to get from them, especially after the last one when they calmed things down much more. From this one we get a grungy tune that I felt added massively to show just how far they are willing to go with their music in order to show the depths that they are willing to go to put their messages across in the tunes that they perform. **Five Stars** 5. "Summer" Coming right off the last one, they decide that it's about time to calm things back down again to showcase the fact that the general feel of thi...more

Crowned Review Anthology - Alien Ant Farm: You've Been Hit By, You've Been Struck By (920 words)

In 2000 there seemed to be quite an influx of bands coming out of America. With the likes of Papa Roach and Linkin Park bursting onto the scene a number of bands followed in their footsteps over the next few years. One such band, were Alien Ant Farm who are probably best remembered for their cover of "Smooth Criminal". Most people would be forgiven for thinking this was the bands only single, but in fact it wasn't, they've even released two albums. I've only ever bought one of them, this, the debut album. The band hail from California and were formed around about the same time as Papa Roach, some 5 years before the release of this album. In fact it ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Not a giANT album! (474 words)

Alien Ant Farm burst onto the scene largely thanks to their hit cover of Smooth Criminal, and the accompanying video, both of which got a lot of air time, on both radio and tv. On the back of that song and a couple more I had heard, I decided to buy the album ANThology, a 'clever' play on words though not exactly fitting for your debut mainstream album... I'd have thought they'd have done better to save it for their greatest hits album somewhere down the line. Maybe they realised that they might not to be all that long lived, and they just really wanted to get the pun out there. Anyway, I got the album and I have to say that at first it grew on me ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Anthology - Alien Ant Farm: This Album Ant Very Good (565 words)

'ANThology' is the oh so cleverly titled major label debut album from Alien Ant Farm, it was released in 2001 and features a cover of the Michael Jackson track 'Smooth Criminal'. The album features 13 tracks and consists of 56 minutes of music; it's not exactly a great album, the Michael Jackson cover is however well worth listening to. 'Smooth Criminal' was quite a massive commercial success for Alien Ant Farm, this Michael Jackson cover was the track which propelled the band to fame and is the only track from this album that I actually enjoy listening to. When the strongest track on your album is a cover you just know that you're doing something wrong; the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review SECRETS OF SUCCESS (644 words)

Rating:

Here is my new master plan for music and world success: 1. Find four American teenagers 2. Come up with a good three word name for them 3. Give them new haircuts and new skateboard cloths 4. Make sure one of them can scream reasonably well 5. Have one learn one drum beat 6. Teach two guitarist how to make some noise (loud) Then release a single and an album, have all the teenagers and younger to buy it as your band has a ‘cool’ image and you will make millions. Simple really, I have to say I was a bit doubtful when I heard of Alien Ant Farm, I got the feeling they were going to be manufactured, no talent wannabes. Then I ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Anthology - Alien Ant Farm: a passably interesting band (929 words)
by - written on 30/09/01 (Very useful, 44 readings)

At first listen of Alien Ant Farm?s ANThology, I wasn?t particularly impressed. I thought that they were dry and boring, and a bit American Middle-of-the-road. After about five listens thought, I find that they have grown of me, and I feel qualified enough to give my opinion of this CD. Alien Ant Farm are one of the only bands I can think of at the moment which I would describe as <rock>. Most bands can be put into a little box marked nu-metal, or skate-punk, or Goth, but Alien Ant Farm are different ? there is something about them that doesn?t follow the trends and that?s what I like. <Courage> A drum roll and slightly heavy riff introduces us to this ...  Read the complete review

Different from all the Nu-Metal at the moment., Some really good tracks. May not appeal to those into their early stuff.

Heavy Metal - 2002

Fairly cheap price, Live recordings, CD-ROM Video Old materialQuite short

Great pagan atmosphere. Poor production spoils effect of instruments.

Creative and distinctive fusion of metal and symphony. Acted interludes are unnecessary and distracting.

Great concept The overall production and average songs.
