My review of The Beatles Anthology Vol.1 - by The Beatles
Accompanying the popular television series a while back, were the Anthology releases. This is Volume 1 of what became a very popular short run of albums.
Unlike the usual Beatles compilations -the Anthology ones go little more left field - being full to the brim with early and rare recordings. Volume one has many offerings that will entertain and enthral Beatles fans, but it's also fascinating for anyone who has a more than passing interest in the fab four...
Album highlights include -
My Bonnie - recorded in Hamburg before the boys were famous, In Spite Of All The Danger -a rare Lennon song that was quite literally lost for decades, and you'll also find famous (sometimes infamous -lol!! for those of you who know your /beatles history) speeches by John and Paul.
Also included is the 'new' Beatles single Free As A Bird -an old unearthed Lennon demo form the late 60's that Paul, George and Ringo completed. The album is worth it for this tracks alone -the fab four back together in spirit at least.
CONLUSION (IN MY OPINION)
There are 60 tracks on this album so there's a lot of stuff to keep a Beatles fan interested -but don't think you're getting 60 polished proper complete songs, you're not. There are speeches, alternative versions, out takes, old and pre fame recordings - so it's not an album to put on a Birthday parties -lol!!
Great for fans, but not as accessible for everyone.
Hope you found my review of some help, and good luck with your bargain hunting!!
Best wishes,
Brett
Summary: Rare - but still Cooking!!
