Advantages: Dozens of alternate studio takes

Disadvantages: 'Real Love' is forgettable

As a glimpse into the recording process, this works more successfully than Anthology 1. To many this was the Beatles best era, & takes us from 'Help!' through to 'Magical Mystery Tour' in early 1968.

Again, this set is started off by another 'new' Beatles track, in the form of 'Real Love' - another Lennon outtake. Working less well & coming on the back of 'Free as a Bird' this track has been pretty much forgotten since it's release. While the first disc features some live tracks from the band's final days as a touring live act, the emphasis is soon on alternate takes from what is without doubt their most productive time in the studio.

Outtakes from 'Rubber Soul', 'Revolver' & 'Sgt. Pepper' live up to their billing, highlights include a hilarious alternate take of 'And Your Bird Can Sing', as weill as a clear view of the development of tracks such as 'I'm Only Sleeping' & 'Strawberry Fields Forever'.

Summary: Great insight into the peak of the Beatles career
