Advantages: Some original songs. Great vocal range.
Disadvantages: One song i'm not sure about and a bit depressing
This album has duly been given a lot of hype and critical acclaim after winning Brits and the Mercury Prize off the back of this album, Anthony and The Johnsons made the big time with this album.
The cover art is ahem visually different and definitely stands out ahem. A little thought provoking as well. I think Anthony and The Johnsons quite rightly got a lot of acclaim on the back of this record. On first hindsight this album has some weird titles and this record one of the best of the year from when it was released.
A very short album given that it's only nine songs but almost every one of them is perfection.
I think Twilight a album opener that has your attention in seconds, a great opening hook and a great start to a ballad centered mid tempo original album. Cirpple and the Star fish is quite thought-provoking and stands out and i think the chorus was absolutely. I think Hitler in my Heart, i think the verses are very emotional and it's quite a ironic amusing song really. Atocities, is different and i think the production needs some work on this - sounds a bit rushed. Rapture, is so out there and it sounds completely different to anything else, i think it's fantastic. Deeper than Love, is done really well in being a stand out album song and should have been a single surely, i think the vocals are particularly strong on this. Divine, is one of the songs i wasn't sure of at the start about this one, but its a grower. Blue Angel is a masterpiece and a superb and ample way to end a album like this.
This album is redefining and it sets a good career bump to Anthony and the Johnsons. I did find it all abit depressing really but it has quality and i recognize that but i dont see me seeing this being one i'd put on when i was feeling happy or sad, just when i had to listen to it. It's quality but not my taste!
Summary: Mercury Prize winner
