The Girls in the Garage compilations are some of the best compilation albums of little known 60s bands that you are likely to find. Think of the Nuggets compilations but with female vocals only. There's a great catalogue of tracks by different girl bands, Volume 1 - all the bands on this album are US bands as far as I'm aware, they match the catchiness of 60s girl bands like The Crystals but their vocals are a little rawer and the music a bit rockier. The album starts off strong with some very energetic and powerful tracks like Take Me As I am by Denise & Co and Bend Me, Shape Me by The Models. My husband always likes to buy me a couple of last minute surprises for birthday and Christmas - something I haven't asked for, but that he thinks I'll like.
