... initial struggles and being overwhelmed upon arriving in Hollywood. Each song similarly tells a story with a number being based around women in each band member's life (i.e. Rocket Queen, Sweet Child O' Mine). Sweet Child O' Mine is the one 'rock ballad' on the album and would be the first of a number of hugely popular rock ballads that were released on subsequent albums. SCOM also contains the legendary Slash solo so familiar to everyone and which has been regularly rated as the best solo ever. Nightrain is my perso...more

Premium Review Appetite For Destruction - Guns n' Roses: Best Classic Rock Album Ever (176 words)
by - written on 22/01/08 (Useful, 26 readings)
Rating:

Even these days, in 2008, this classic hard hitting heavy rock album is still regarded by many of the genre fanatics as the best rock album ever released, a classic in its own right. When the album was released in 1987 it hit the streets and schools with a new controversy-sparking punky aggressive rock n roll attitude with sleazy songs like It's So Easy and Rocket Queen yet retaining an ample pop-rock sound with songs like Sweet Child Of Mine. A whole era of rock music followed in its footsteps but never suceeded the attitude, the emotion, the passion and the dedication that is 'Appetite For Destruction' Even after over twenty years the original band members ...  Read the complete review

The rock n roll universe is indeed a strange place. In its vast enormity it harnesses some quite unique stars. Unpredictable and dysfunctional it is an environment in which anything goes and this is what makes it so captivating. The combinations it throws together can be so intriguing. In 1985 there were ominous rumblings in its great celestial body as a certain band was born a lovechild of L.A Guns and Hollywood Rose. This merger was to prove explosive and by 1987 the planets had truly aligned causing a meteorite in the form of 'Appetite For Destruction' to crash down in a part of Los Angeles. Its aftershock was to spread worldwide where it claimed the lives ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Appetite For Destruction - Guns n' Roses: The best album by GNR (370 words)
by - written on 13/09/09 (Very useful, 1 readings)

Appetite for Destruction is without a doubt one of my favourite albums ever - I think it's not only the best thing that the band has ever done, but quite possibly the best thing to be made by a mainstream rock band. What I love about them most is their fusion of blues into their rock music, helped largely by Axl Rose's tender vocals, and whilst I don't like the guy that much, he at least is a very talented man. Moreover, Slash's astounding guitar work really does make the band what they are, as well as apt support from the likes of Duff McKeegan. Literally EVERY song is a certifiable classic in my opinion. Opening with Welcome to the Jungle, which ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

"Appetite For Destruction" came in 1987 as a classic album as it dropped as the debut release from the Californian Hard Rock band Guns N' Roses. It gets the classic band line up with Axl Rose leading Slash, Duff McKagen, Steven Adler and Izzy Stradlin with their innovative approach to Rock in the late eighties. 1. "Welcome To The Jungle" The album begins with a relevant opener as they introduce them selves with what was their second single as they rip through in a heavy way as hey come with an empowering tune. It is a rough one and a perfect choice to get things going and to excite the listeners for what is to come within the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Appetite For Destruction - Guns n' Roses: Appetite for G n' R (1352 words)
by - written on 08/08/09 (Very useful, 37 readings)
Rating:

Appetite for Destruction was the first proper rock album I owned. It was released in 1987 and was the album that broke Guns n' Roses into the mainstream, making them international superstars and the ultimate stadium filling rock band of the late 80s/early 90s. The album was first released on vinyl with extremely controversial cover art - a hand drawn representation of a girl having been raped by a robot monster. This was understandably shocking and this artwork was quickly withdrawn and replaced by more consumer friendly artwork. I must now confess something - I first owned this album on vinyl, with the original artwork. However, I fell out of love with ...  Read the complete review
