Advantages: A great, time less rock album with great musicians and a fantastic variety of strong songs
Disadvantages: None
This album is simply the defining album of one of the greatest rock bands ever, and indeed one of the defining albums of the genre as a whole. This was the debut album of Hollywood scene heavy weight hard rock band Guns n' Roses, released in 1987 and it is one of those albums where every track is just great; you can put it on and not have to skip any, which is always good!
It boasts somewhat of a super band with the legendary Slash (Velvet Revolver, Slash's Snakepit) on guitars along with Izzy Stradlin, Steven Adler (Adler's Destruction) on drums, the fantastic Duff McKagan (Velvet Revolver, Loaded) on bass and of course Axl Rose on vocals. Although only very young when making this album, the music is very mature and well exectuted with amazing riffs and solos and vocals which mean that it is still very relevant to todays rock fans, even new fans, and is not at all dated, always coming in somewhere near the top in album polls. In fact, it's difficult to believe that this was a debut album at all!
The album features the classics 'Sweet Child O' Mine', which everyone seems to know and love, along with 'Welcome to the Jungle' and 'Paradise City' along with lesser known ones such as 'Night Train', 'Mr. Brownstone', 'Out T Get Me', 'Think About You', 'My Michelle', 'Anything Goes', 'Your Crazy', 'Rocket Queen' and 'It's So Easy'. With songs like Sweet Child O Mine and Think About You alongside Welcome To The Jungle, the album really encompasses a range of emotions and tempos, which adds to it's appeal; it isn't a one trick pony.
The album is really a must have for any rock fan and is reasonably priced now (£3.99 at HMV and about £5 at Amazon). In fact, I've actually worn my first copy out! *There are some explicit lyrics.*
Summary: A must have for any rock fan
