Advantages: Great album, solos, melodies

Disadvantages: Only twelve tracks? One of three studio albums with slash and axl.

**Introduction**

It is fair to say that the Guns N' Roses ride was not maybe as smooth as some bands. What with all the drug and alcohol abuse going on as well as the in fighting between the members. This eventually led to the breakup of the band and resulted in Slash's Snakepit and Velvet Revolver and well Axl Rose just being Axl Rose and taking a hell of a long time to follow up the Use your Illusion albums with a new studio recording. So I thought I would remember Guns N Roses for their time as one of the best bands in the world.

**Guns N' Roses**

Axl Rose - Vocals, synthesizers, percussion

Slash - Lead and Acoustic Guitars

Duff McKagan - Bass Guitar and backing vocals

Izzy Stradlin - rhythm guitars, backing vocals, percussion

Steven Adler - Drums

**Appetite for Destruction**

This is widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time by critics and fans alike. Released in 1987 this album still remains the fastest-selling debut album in history. The album was produced by Mike Clink and the album was his first big success as a record producer. Appetite for Destruction was released on the Geffen Record label owned of course by David Geffen. The release date was 21st July 1987 and the album was recorded in California.

1.) Welcome To The Jungle

This is a fantastic opener to the album, It shows what they were all about, catchy riffs from Slash and Izzy Stradlin and Axl Rose's distinctive full blown vocals. One of the best features of this track is the pace as once it gets going it's at full pelt throughout which makes for a very good track indeed.

2.) It's so easy

This track was written by bassist Duff McKagan and was written before the band started the process of writing and recording the album. This has a great melody and Axl showcases the range of his voice with a darker deeper vocal tone than on other tracks. Very good indeed.

3.) Nightrain

This track is about a brand of Californian Wine they used to drink, They used to buy it because of it's high alcohol content and cheapness. This track is full of dirty riffs from Slash, Izzy and Duff and is one of the most melodic tracks on the album. This is Slash's favourite Guns N' Roses track to play live.

4.) Out Ta Get Me

This track carries on from Night Train in terms of dirty riffs, Not quite as appealing as the previous track it still has a lot to offer with some great melodies and riffs. A very good track.

5.) Mr. Brownstone

This is written by Slash and Duff about their heroin use during the early Guns N' Roses years. There's some great guitar work from Slash which reminds me a little of early Aerosmith courtesy of Joe Perry. This is a very good track indeed that has a very good flow and doe not condone the use of heroin.

6.) Paradise City

This is one of the biggest stadium tracks of the 1980's. I'm sure you have seen the music video to this track where they are performing the track at Donnington Park. This is a classic track that has some great riffs and is one of the most flowing tracks on the album. Just brilliant stuff.

7.) My Michelle

This is a fast paced track about someone Slash knew from High School called Michelle Young. He tells the story about when they were in a car and Elton John's "Your song" came on the radio and she said she'd always wanted someone to write a song about her. So here it is. A fantastic pacey track with some great guitar work.

8.) Think about You

Another fast paced full on metal track. Axl's vocals are very melodic and bring something different to the track. The music is as good as ever and there are some great riffs and breaks that make this track a very good one indeed. Not quite the best but ever so nearly.

9.) Sweet Child O'Mine

Think of Guns N' Roses and this may come into your head. This is such an iconic track and one that may never have seen the light of day as Slash did not like the track in the first place. The opening guitar part from Slash which has become so iconic was just a jokey circus sound to begin with but it stuck and the result is this awesome track with some incredible guitar work from Slash.

10.) You're Crazy

This is a very fast paced track with some frenetic guitar work from Slash and Izzy as well as some pounding drumming from Steven Adler. This does not have the same progression as some of the other tracks so does not quite live up to those standards but is a very good track indeed.

11.) Anything Goes

This is another track with some great riffs but it has a different feel to much of the album with some changes in the sound of the riffs with a much more sparky riff. This is a very good track indeed and certainly not one to skip to get to the closing Rocket Queen.

12.) Rocket Queen

This is a great end track due to it's incredible melodies and guitar work. The music around the guitar breaks is that different that they could be in two different songs. This is up there with the best tracks on the album due to some amazing guitar work from Slash.

**Overall**

As debut albums go there can't be many that had the impact that this album did on the world of music, Influence, sales, standing there can't be many that come close. Just think what they could have been had they kept together for longer than three studio albums. Appetite for Destruction is one of my favourite albums from the 1980's and I will continue to listen to it for decades to come. Brilliant stuff.
