Advantages: Fantastic music.
Disadvantages: The production could be considered a bit dated.
Possibly the best rock n roll album ever released by possibly the best rock n roll band ever. The fastest ever selling debut album with over 28 million records sold worldwide, certifying it as a diamond album. I needn't say much more, but I will.
The album kicks off with 'Welcome to the Jungle' which is a song that the band regularly opened with and talks about lead singer Axl Roses's initial struggles and being overwhelmed upon arriving in Hollywood. Each song similarly tells a story with a number being based around women in each band member's life (i.e. Rocket Queen, Sweet Child O' Mine). Sweet Child O' Mine is the one 'rock ballad' on the album and would be the first of a number of hugely popular rock ballads that were released on subsequent albums. SCOM also contains the legendary Slash solo so familiar to everyone and which has been regularly rated as the best solo ever. Nightrain is my personal favourite, a fast paced, gritty and yet melodic solo which exemplified the supreme skills of each band member; ranging from Axl's unique singing talent, to Slash's legendary guitar playing and to Duff's fast, driving bass lines.
Even 22 years on, this album still sells and has not lost any of the appeal it had when it was first released. If for whatever reason you haven't listened to Guns n Roses, get this album straightaway.
Summary: A must buy.
