Advantages: quality of voice: excellent music choice

Disadvantages: arias sung out of context

I first heard Andrea Bocelli a few years ago when Classic FM played regular selections from his album Aria. I was using my stereo unit as an alarm clock at the time, and woke up on a few occasions to the sound of this excellent tenor. It was not long before I found the album on sale in the local shop, and had no hesitation at buying it immediately.
I was even more impressed when I played the complete album. Many tenors have a talent for specific sectors of opera, so they excel at one aria but perform average on another. Andrea Bocelli performs arias on this album from a wide variety of operatic sources and manages to sing all with vocal and emotive competence.
My personal preference is for complete operatic works rather than arias taken out of context, but since he is unlikely ever to perform an opera due to the great misfortune of being blind, I consider this recording to be an essential addition to my music collection.
If you have a love of true vocal quality then I would recommend this recording without hesitation.
