Advantages: Good-time ABBA like it was meant to be.

Disadvantages: You probably already own the songs.

If you're a fan of ABBA's famous hits, this is probably the original album for you. Of course it is now likely to pale beside the CD recordings of "Gold" and "More Gold", but if you want original items, it's great.

It features the ABBA song par excellence - "Dancing Queen", as well as the "Knowing Me Knowing You" out of which Steve Coogan made two whole series of parody. Money Money Money is also a well known ABBA song, with its feelgood jumpy atmosphere, at the same time as a down-to-earth message about, err, dirt-poor rock superstars. Hmm, maybe not.

In the same vein as these songs, but less well known, other ABBA disco-style numbers feature here, such as "When I Kissed The Teacher", "Dum Dum Diddle" and "My Love, My Life". It also contains slightly more experimental tunes such as "Tiger" - one of the few tracks that features the men singing, and the frankly odd "Arrival".

Overall, this is a good album for the generalist ABBA fan, although the retro-buyer with a deep interest in the group, who probably already owns most of the songs featured here, might gain more from buying a more interesting work, such as the late album "Visitors", where ABBA were experimenting with new musical styles - hit and miss, but the hits included "Soldiers", "One of Us" and "I let the music speak".

The 1997 re-release of Arrival also includes the hit "Fernando", but you will find that originals do not - it was only released as a single.

I remember the good old days (!!) a few years back when it used to be different and exciting to listen to Abba, but now evry man woman and sausage dog owns Abba Gold, and all the townie pubs play it constantly. Grrrrr Steps
