Advantages: Many great, mellow tunes

Disadvantages: odd talking between tunes

De la soul are a group who have been around for years. They have only really been famous in America. I must admit I hadn’t really heard of them until I saw them in the MOBO’s. the song which the sung was “oooh oooh” it is a really great tune with a catchy beat, it features Redman who is from Compton and a really good rapper in his own rights. I decided to buy their album, “artificial intelligience,” the album has a great cover representing the three members of the group with kind of like motion footage.

Having listened to the album fully through I believe if it was advertised more then the group would become more famous in the UK. The album is fantastic and contains many good tunes, along with many different rappers. “All Good” one of the groups more famous songs has been remixed into a garage mix which I think is really great, being a garage fan too. I still think the original featuring, Chaka Khan, is totally awesome. I am not actually sure which side of America De la soul are from, but it doesn’t really matter considering the two are getting along so well now anyway.

The well known tunes on the album have to be, “All Good,” “Oooh Oooh,” and “Thru Ya City.” All of these tunes are really awesome and have fantastic beats in the background which make the sings so good. Other great tunes on the album include “My Writes,” featuring Xzibit, “U can do,” and “I.C. Y’all,” this time featuring an Eastside rapper, Busta Rhymes. There are many other super tunes on the album but I don’t want to hive it all away, but believe me they are all really awesome. Other great rappers and artists who appear on the album are, J-Ro, Indeed, The beastie boys, Busy bee and Freddie Foxxx. All of which add great new taste to the album.

The rap itself I would say is inbetween, Outkast and Dr Dre. If you like Mos Def then you will
like De la soul!! The album has some really mellow tunes and a few which are a bit harder but they all merge well together to make this album really great and proves De la soul are still great and that they should be recognised everywhere as they are truly great.

The only down side to this C.D is the fact the there is a lot of unnecessary talking between tracks which I think puts a downer on the album but when the tunes start to beat, all is forgotten!!!

I would definitely recommend this album to my friends, it has little explicit language and is a really good album, I would give it a high,9/10.

Sorry to be a stickler, but I thought Mosaic Thump was terrible. Unengaging, uninventive, semi-experimental dullness that bore very little resemblance to the verve of previous albums that made them irresistibly different in the first place. Although I hate to say it, this really was an album too far for DLS because the passion and panache that was a hallmark of theirs in years gone by was so evidently missing it was criminal...

And De La not famous, anyone who literally anything about Hip Hop will know the name De La, I have seen Three Feet High for sale in Turkey, Hungary and Hong Kong, I think to say they are only successful in America is inaccurate
