Trivium are a very mixed bag for me. I was extremley dissapointed with what I felt was a tame entry into their discography with 'The Crusade.' However, I recently gave their newest album 'Shogun' a chance and I must say I rather enjoyed it. Listening to their progression as muscians made me want to revisit their origins. While Ember To Inferno is indeed their album origin, I feel I had to visit the first album of theirs I listened to - Ascendancy. I first heard about this in the winter of 2005. At that time I was into much more technical bands such as Dream Theater (still am) and so when my brother suggested this band and told me their style I wasn't that ... Read the complete review

Trivium and 'Ascendancy' the album everyone will think of when trivium is mentioned, this album made trivium into the Monsturous band they are today. If your into tuned down Guitars, Bass that will make your walls fall down, Drumming that will pummel you insides and Vocals that will make your heart stop then this is the album for you. Written mostly by the young prodigy Matt Heafy this album reached high in the charts and contained everything a metalcore band needs to have. From heavy metal riffs and melodic choruses to Matt's signature screaming vocals you wont hear anything close, making Trivium and 'Ascendancy' a force to be reckoned with. With ... Ascendancy is the second album from floridian Metal outfit "Trivium". This album is this last in which their metalcore style is present, as after this they dropped it for a rubbish "metallica" wannabe sound. The album kicks off as you wouldn't expect. "The End of Everything" is a beautiful orchestral peice. The threatening and menacing sound sets the tone of the album perfectly. The next track "rain" is a complete contrast. It blast out of your speakers and brings a complete aural assault. The riffs are fast and heavy; the drums are punishing and the screaming voclas from Matt Heafy are awesome. "Pull ... Possibly Trivium's Best album in my opinion. This album has a brilliant and amazing variation of songs with awesome riffs and solos that just shred their way through your body. As a guitar player myself the riffs are extremely complex and very well written. All of the songs have a very good rhythm to them and a consitency in awesome lyrics. The guitar parts compliment the lyrics perfectly as when the lyrics are sad so is the guitar parts! This makes the album brilliant to listen and also gives a good variation which i view is a very important feature of a good album. This album was made extremely heavy as the lead vocals Matt Heafy is a ... Read the complete review
