I loved Hole's previous album - "Live through this" and have since bought their stuff. On the first listen to this album (Ask for it) I was pretty startled. The music is very intense, very raw and for the most part pretty sloppy, mainly due to it being somewhat rough and live. As a fan though, i still enjoyed it. I would say if you are a fan of hole, just give it a shot. Half of the songs on this cds are covers. Courtney Love's lyrical skills really show through on the tracks (besides the covers of course!). First of all, this isn't an album, it's an EP. This means it only has 6 tracks on it - some live and some from a John Peel session that the band recorded. Over the Edge is a cover from a band called The Wipers and it sounds like the kind of thing Hole could have written themselves: fast moving punk with angry lyrics. Pale Blue Eyes is an interesting take on Lou Reed's pretty pop tune which is turned into something of a tortured screamfest by Courtney. Are you noticing something of a theme here?
